Sure GGG wants a legit strap around his waste. But the bigger prize is the payday that goes with it. The last thing GGG wants Canelo to do is drop the belt or be stripped, as long as Canelo holds it the potential for a big payday exists. Trust me, the Mexican fanbase would not care if Canelo drops the belt. Its a business and Canelo holds all the trump cards here. GGG is in his mid thirties and no other big paydays on the horizon, holding all the belts just means a bigger piece of his purse goes to sanctioning fees.
If the fight happens this year its because K2 and GGG realize they have no choice but to accept Canelo's terms. Otherwise they can pick up another paper title from a no name and make a fraction of what a Canelo fight would bring.
Get off your code of honor bs, this is a business first and Canelo knows his worth.
    Nope, it's not like this.
In case Canelo doesn't want to fight, he will be stripped by WBC and they will give Golovkin that belt. As about the payday: In case Canelo would want to fight an older GGG, he may call him out in 7017, for instance, and get that strap back if he is able to win.

I bet 80% of the people that watched the Cotto fight couldn't tell you who has which middle weight belt or who is lineal champ, they don't care. Case in point is GGG's last fight. He couldn't even sell 100k despite having multiple titles.
If Canelo dropped the belt his PPV numbers would not suffer at all. If he never fought GGG his career would not be impacted one bit. GGG only has one viable payday left. Its up to him if he is willing to pay the price to make it happen.
OK, OK -- then he may drop those belts.
If those belts didn't count, why he fought for them in the first place? Canelo could have fought Cotto at 154, with no belts involved... right?

It was Cotto's decision to fight for the belt. I don't get why ABC belts are now suddenly important.

          Don't you read?
If the belts aren't important why do they fight for them eventually?
          So childish...

pff I'll believe it when I see it. All I've seen from Canelo and de La hoya is fear and excuses.

I think plenty of people are going to watch GGG's next fight

Canelo can fight Cotto, Jacobs, Saunders, The Charlos , Andrade or Lara all on PPV if he chooses, Golovkin on the other hand is headed back to HBO Boxing After Dark, because of two things ; 1. PPV flop 2. Cherry picking his opponents. When will GGG fans except that he doesn't want to take risks and take the big fights , all I hear is , strip Canelo please WBC . I'll be laughing all day if the WBC strips GGG of his mandatory status for being impossible to deal with.

It's not Canelos or Cottos fault GGGs PPV event flopped bad. Canelos latest PPV event generated a total of $70 million dollars plus, while GGG PPV event only generated $7 million these are facts. If this fight doesn't get made its all on GGG. CANELO is gonna continue to do big things, like for example , opening up that brand new MGM Casino which we all know is going to be Epic!

Well Golden Boy is suing Al Haymon so Jacobs, The Charlos , Andrade and Lara are out. The Cotto fight wasn't exciting and would do less in PPV because of low demand. Saunders is fighting in the Summer so he is out. then you got nobody. He will settle for GGG's leftovers mark my words. Canelo needs GGG more than he thinks. He's no Mayweather and isn't exciting at all. It's either gonna be Canelo-Rosado or Canelo-Monroe. Pick your poison.
