Why was there so much hype behind Bradley beating rios?

I don't get it. It's Rios. I understand that it was a knockout which Tim rarely gets. But it's Rios. He can make everyone look spectacular. That's his purpose. He is officially that guy. If Pac gets knocked out against Marquez then put him in there against Rios in the next fight. He'll be back to being the devastating whirlwind Pacquiao. I'm just saying, out of everyone Bradley defeated, from Devon Alexander, to Lamont Peterson, to even Marquez, everyone hyped Bradley over defeating Rios? Weird.

    Great post. Green k!

Exactly the formula to restore PAC. Rios is the slow guy who has a few decent wins under his belt, but was too slow and ate too much to be the best.

I don't think it was the face value win over Rios, it was the fashion that he beat him in.

beat me to it... Rios is a tough SOB that has never been stopped before. I think this is the reason why it got hyped up a bit over those other guys.

it goes to show you how people overrate knockouts

Rios has done absolutely at welterweight

"featherfisted" guy, knocks out "granite chinned" heavy bag so people get excited, its expected

Anybody with common sense knows you go to the body and the head will fall. Considering how soft around the middle Rios has been looking above 140, very slow and hittable. He was bound to get stopped if he started facing top ten welterweights.....Manny isn't a body puncher, he can be a head hunter so he didn't get the stoppage. The way Rios bloats up between fights I'd have told my fighter to work the body as well

Because of the knockout. Bradley did look good, but Rios was absolutely terrible and you have to consider how bad he looked. Bradley also showed some moves that he never used before, which made people excited. Me, for one, and I want to believe those skills will stick, but it's hard to get overly excited for displaying them against such a poor opponent.

Mainstream wise, Rios is a name that clicks with casuals so the hype with beating a name would be higher than beating an Alexander or Peterson.

Bob Arum needed to make a final fight for Pacquiao and, with his insistence on keeping everything in-house, the only real option that he likely considered was the Bradley-Rios winner, full stop.

The April Pacquiao fight being HBO's last for-sure shot at getting a healthy payday from a Pacquiao PPV made it absolutely necessary for HBO to sell whomever won that fight as a monster wrecking machine that viewers should be happy to shell out $70 to see Pacquiao fight next (if Rios had won, HBO would've pushed the Alvarado win as if Rios had knocked off a top contender, with the victory over Bradley leaving HBO trying to sell Rios as the best welterweight fighter on the planet, lol).

If not for the need to sell a Pacquiao fight, there would've been no where near the hype put on the performance, as Bradley would only be looking towards fights against Sadam Ali and the Jeese Vargas rematch (neither matchup I'd bet that HBO would be all that gung-ho to commit an HBO World Championship Boxing broadcast to.

I agree that is not a big win for Bradley but it did show some improvement in his fighting style. But Rios is there to be hit so it can be deceiving.

But it is priceless to see that wanna be bully Rios quitting and crying to retirement after the fight
