Wilder, when he's in position, throws better and straighter shots than Fury. But Fury's feet are way, way better than Wilder's. When Deontay's out of position he swings like a rusty gate and rarely recovers quickly. He may well catch Fury but he would spend long stretches of the fight getting outboxed.
In any case, we're not going to see that fight. Martin winning last night buried Fury-Wilder for at least 2-3 years.Comment

I figured it did just the opposite. Wilder skips povetkin, beats Martin for ibf belt, then fights fury for all belts end of year or early 2017.Wilder, when he's in position, throws better and straighter shots than Fury. Wilder's footwork just makes him look terrible.
I am trying to ignore it because he still gets his punches off. But at times.........Jesus!
He is brilliant to watch though. And his reaction to Fury impressed me a bit - I did sort of think he just seemed like a very basic man with his 'booomb squaaaad!' nonsene. He is probably more 3 dimensional than he puts himself across.Comment

If Wilder beats Povetkin I will become really interested in this match. Right now I'm not convinced he can beat Fury.Comment

In usr about every Deontay Wilder thread, I keep reading about how bad he looked and how he doesn't measure up to the top heavyweights right now Amd I think everyone has lost their minds. No, he didn't impress last night. But outside of Luis Ortiz, what heavyweight has had an impressive performance recently? No, he's not an elite fighter. But even though I'm not a big P4P list guy and hadn't put together a list in I don't know how long. If I did, I think I'd have to get pretty deep into the list before I could find a place to put any of the current top heavyweights.
Just because the heavyweight division is generating some excitement, doesn't mean its stocked with talented fighters. Tyson Fury is a bum in every sense of the word. Kudos to him for knocking off Wlad. But let's not pretend that Wlad hasn't significantly fallen off and Fury merely got to him first. And Wlad was never exactly a world beater to begin with. Deontay Wilder is a mediocre fighter that fits in very well in a division with a lotta average and below average fighters that sit at the top.Comment

I thought it was pointless and Fury looked like a classless fool. It's not a good look for boxing. Wilder handled it well. Fury knows they can't fight next because he has a rematch with Wlad. It .looked like Fury was going to sing one of his horrible songs for a while. Fights aren't made by one fighter getting in another fighter's face. Big fights are made by promoters, lawyers, managers and networks. If Fury had any class he would have let Wilder enjoy his win. Nobody jumped in Fury's face and called him a bum after his win over Wlad. Fury is the real champ and everybody knows it. He is on top and all the heavyweights have to beat him if they want to be considered the real heavyweight champion. There is no reason he should act like Briggs. Fury is an attention hog and acts like a big hyper kid sometimes. Fury is a smarter, better fighter than Wilder and should beat him. Wilder has fast hands and one punch KO power so he is always dangerous. I look forward to them fighting someday.Comment

I agree that last night generated some buzz. And I didn't realize it to this week, but Wilder has built up a bit of a following down here in the Southeast. I already knew he was big in AL because I went to the Molina fight and it was sold out and an electric atmosphere. And I was sitting a row behind the ringside seating and judging by the conversations going on around me. I was the only hardcore fight fan within hearing distance. But what really shocked me was this week. Up here in TN, which isn't a big boxing state at all. I talked to four seperate people, only one of which is a hardcore fight fan. And all four were doing to different fight parties people were having last night.
I'm curious to see what kinda rating the fight did last night. Cause if they were good enough. With the highlight reel KO and post fight exchange with Fury. It might be wort it to pay Wlad and Provetkin to step aside and let Fury-Wilder happen now.Comment
