In an ideal world, Wilder would fight and beat Martin for his Ibf belt, then fight Fury for all the belts. Harsh for Povetkin but Fury could give him a shot straight after beating Wilder. Povetkin then has a shot at all the belts not just the WBC.

With the situation we have now that would be a good solution. We need the quickest route to unifying the titles and hopefully getting to see Fury-Wilder meet before it drags on too long.

Right now Fury is the legitimate champion but it would be good to see the belts unified to stop the confusion among the casual fan that may view a guy like Prince Charles as a legitimate world champion.

The crowd was mostly there to see Szpilka. Mostly poles by what I was hearing & watching. That is why Golota got 4 title shots because he could pack MSG. Szpilka looks like he can draw a decent polish crowd.

Yeah, the MSG crowd def seemed more Polish, or at the very least, they were the loudest section but that doesn't change the fact that a fight, marketed as an all American heavyweight showdown would do decent business in the US. Showtime/Haymon will probably make it PPV.

I think a prior-agreed upon rematch clause should have precedence over a mandatory defense. Or at the very least it should be communicated in advance, as part of the contract for the original bout, whether the winner of the fight needs to fight the mandatory defense immediately or whether an immediate rematch is acceptable. In other words I think this needs to be a case by case thing - it seems unfair to me that Fury was stripped of a title he rightfully earned and unfair to me that a long reigning champion like Klitschko will not get the right to fight for that title in the rematch - this is a case where the IBF should have used better judgment.

You need to remind yourself that a "rematch clause" is simply VOLUNTARILY AGREEING in advance to a VOLUNTARY DEFENSE. A voluntary defense does not take precedence over a mandatory defense, especially a mandatory defense that was already overdue before the previous fight.

If rematch clauses took precedence over mandatory defenses, two fighters could agree to infinite rematch clauses and hold a title hostage for life.

It *was* communicated in advance, as part of the contract for the original bout, that the winner needed to fight the mandatory defense immediately and that an immediate rematch clause was not acceptable.

Klitschko & Fury *hid* the rematch clause from the IBF to trick the IBF into sanctioning their fight, so that the IBF title would be stripped right after their fight instead of right before their fight.

It was not unfair at all to strip Fury. Fury was a mandatory challenger and had no reason to agree to a rematch clause if he thought he was going to win. He voluntarily chose to agree to a voluntary defense, knowing he'd be stripped.

Fury did what was best for his wallet and that is fine.

The IBF could have broken their rules like other organizations would have, so they too could have done what was best for their wallet.

Instead, they enforced their rules, even though it wasn't the best thing for their wallet.
