Sucks he lost, but heard his opponent was a solid amateur & obviously a undefeated pro himself so not the end of the world. I kinda prefer these guys who come into the pro game young & take a L or two on the way up.
There was an article on here when they barely announced that he was going pro (in April I believe), I wasn't yet a member so I didn't post. I did post on a later forum about him and I said the same thing, which was that I did not agree with him turning pro this early.
Having Youth and Junior success is one thing, but he didn't even fight at Elite/Senior level yet so naturally there was several questions. There is a big step up from Youth level to Elite level. If you look at all the top Youth fighters most (like 90% of them) don't do well once they move to Elite/Senior level. That's why I wanted him to stay amateur a little longer so he could at least test out some Senior tournaments. He should have at least tried the WSB, which is what fighters like Golub, who also fought in this undercard, did.
If you look at the Youth World Championships from 2014 from all the medalist only one fighter has made successful transition to Elite level. That being Bektemir Melikuziev, who got Silver at the recent World Amateur Championships. The other medalists have not made a great transition. Most of these kids peak when they're Juniors and Youth, which is not ideal.
Another guy who has made a successful transition was Dzmitry Asanau, who got a Bronze at the World Championships. The funny thing about Asanau though is that he wasn't even able to medal at the Junior and Youth Worlds. He's peaking at a good time. Better to medal at the World Championships Senior level than to medal at the Junior or Youth World level.

Gadzhiev fought an extremely difficult guy. Obidov is the one that beat Christopher Brooker. Brooker was just recently on PBC and upsetted a Light-Heavyweight prospect. This fight with Gadzhiev took place at Middleweight. I was shocked that they're were going to put him in there with Obidov in just his second bout.
Plus Obidov is from Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan has a great boxing program. I can't say I'm shocked Gadzhiev lost. I wouldn't mind if Obidov has a successful professional career. We need someone to open up the doors for more Uzbekistan fighters. Guys like Bektemir Melikuziev and Fazliddin Gaibnazarov, as well as many more, would be great pros.

By the way you seem like one of the better posters on this site. I just had to comment on that.
