Comments Thread For: Bute's Coach: Pascal in Very Tough, Kovalev Superior To Golovkin

Howard Grant, trainer for former champion Lucian Bute, is expected a very, very tough fight for Jean Pascal, who faces IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (28-0-1, 25 KOs) on January 30th in Montreal.

I agree. Kovalev has shown himself to be a much better fighter than GGG, but the HBO hype machine pushes GGG way ahead of him.

I don't know how some people have GGG higher then Kovalev on the p4p list...

Why he makes that comparison??? Jean Pascal vs kovalev are another business from GGG, also kov > ggg.
And Grant your "son" Bute is worse than they (Pascal, ggg, kov)

Kovalev is good, but he fought an older Hopkins. Chad Dawson gave BHop the business, a younger Bhop would have destroyed him. With that said, I would put Kovalev in the top 3 P4P aiming at number 2, GGG in the top 10 with the possibility of falling out if another weak opponent is selected..

            Grant's Right

Mr. Grant is right Kovalev is superior to GGG. I'm not saying that the gap between the two is big but there is a gap. That mainly has to do with the fact that Kovalev has beaten much better competition than GGG.

They both have complete boxing skills and have been trained extremely well. Not to mention both have extensive amateur backgrounds which helps greatly.

To me the reason why GGG gets more shine is because of marketing. GGG has been marketed very well by K2 and HBO. While Kovalev has gotten good backing from HBO, Main Events have come up a little short of marketing him the proper way. He should be getting paid on par with GGG not less.

Kovalev is the best Light Heavyweight in the World. I look forward to seeing him and Andre Ward in a future bout.

Beating better comp doesn't mean you're better. For instance Spence is better than most of the top ten having nothing on his resume.

Also disagree about marketing being the main factor. Nobody has the recipe to turn a Kazakh or Russian into a big time star on US soil. Pretty sure its never happened before, Kovalev is the norm. So theres gotta be more to it than marketing

They are both on the P4P list so they are going to be compared.

Personally I agree with Howard Grant. At the moment Kovalev has proven more against better opponents.

Kov and it's not even close, the kid has one of the best jabs in the game and can hurt you without putting much effort on his punches. If Kov was a middleweight there's no doubt his resume would be garbage since everyone would be ducking him like they did Golovkin.
GGG needs to takeout Canelo then move up to 168, there will be no one else after that.
Kov should be marketed more since he has a mean streak and brings excitement, good luck to the crazy Pascal on the 30th.
