I ask because I've heard many different fighters managed by Haymon say things like "It's up to Al Haymon and my team". But I've also heard some of them say things like "I fight who I want to fight, I choose my fights".

Does it all just depend on who the boxer is and how big his following is?

Look at Khan for instance, is he being sit out to try on his own volition? I'm sure Al has suggested fights for him to take only to be shot down by Khan.

I've heard different stories. For example you have Thurman who says he usually get's about 3 names to choose from and I know Abner Mares has said something along the lines of you pick who you want to fight. Then you have the other side where it seems like Leo Santa Cruz fights whomever Al tells him to. Sounds like it just depends on the fighter if Al makes the first and final decision or makes a recommendation and they choose.

You're right, I've also heard of some Haymon guys saying they're presented with 3 or so names and they go on from there. Whereas some others say Al Haymon chooses for them. Confusing process. I guess it just depends on the fighter.

For instance, I'm sure if Leo Santa Cruz flat out told Haymon he wanted to fight Rigo, Russel Jr., or a Lomachenko he'd be shot down because Haymon knows he isn't elite enough to beat those guys.

Floyd is a Haymon managed fighter and he chooses exclusively who he wants to fight.

I'm sure Broner chooses who he wants to as well. There are other examples all over the place. Khan is another one.

Thurman said he's surprised to find he was only given one choice in the Collazo fight. Don't know if that meant he's the one who picked his previous fights. I also don't know if he's the one who picked Bundu, and avoided Alexander, who openly stated at that time that he'll fight Thurman. All these things can be clarified if only the media go deeper. They can simply ask him who those other choices were in the Bundu pick, for instance.

The fighters have final say... A few Haymon fighters have been on record saying that..
