Will there ever be a UFC star crossover and fight a good boxer in the ring

I see all these guys using boxers names and calling out boxer. A lot of them were past it when they tried their hand at UFC. Holly Holm is near her prime, has a kickboxing background but is definitely more accomplished as a boxer and anything else and has successfully transitioned to MMA

Ray Mercer, James Toney and others had the balls to fight in the UFC or MMA so will we ever see one of their world class fighters fight one of ours in a boxing

Connor McGregor and Lawlor have good hands for MMA fighters but I seriously doubt Lawlor would fight someone at 147-154 in boxing like Thurman, Brook, Cotto, Lara, Bradley etc.....he'd be embarrassed and hitting a lot of nothing

What you have to understand is, if an mma fighter only boxed then he would be a boxer rather than an mma fighter. Boxing is only 1 aspect of mma. You have to be a well rounded fighter when facing someone who punches, throws kicks, elbows, knees, shoots in to take you down, then tries to twist you, bend you and break your limbs! Being only skilled in boxing won't take you very far when facing an elite mma artist.

They will never try it because they already know the outcome they would get KO'd. Paulie would KO any elite MMA fighter around his weight class for god sake.

Ive always said this, MMA fighters have less than 1% chance against a boxer in the Boxing ring, in MMA a boxer has around 5-10% chance of beating someone in their domain. Only 3 boxers from my knowledge have fought in MMA and 2 got KO wins (mercer and holms) the other one being Toney getting subbed by couture.

a boxer fighting in the octagon leaves to much room for the fight to be drab like Toney vs Couture

If they are such good martial artist they should cross the pond and stop name dropping.

Boxing is one of the worlds oldest martial arts and one of the hardest to master and dominate in.....fighters don't train for 2-3 years of their life and become champions like MMA

You won't see a world class boxer in MMA because the money isn't good enough, there's no fighters in MMA that can compete at world level in boxing or they'd be in boxing.

Yea I feel the same way...its just getting old hearing them name drop so I posed the question.

Anderson Silva wanted Roy Jones after he took losses

others been name dropping, but why mention a boxer if you are not gonna fight one anytime soon?

Some one may do it one day but not anytime soon. They probably wouldn't sanction it unless its someone like Lawlor or McGregor

Exactly they are only doing it for the promotional angle, who gives a **** about MMA vs Boxer or other way round, they are both separate so the media needs to shut it down with the BS.

Perfect example of how refined boxing is Fury Vs Klit and Aldo vs Mcgregor, it took Fury 12 rounds to beat Klit but Aldo gets embarrassed in 13secs even though he has been undefeated for 10 years like Klit. No way that would happen in boxing.

I mean Brock Lesnar became HW champ after 3 4 fights, a WWE wrestler for petes sake, its embarrassing comparing the 2.

I think its harder to be a circus act in boxing at a highly paid level than it is to be a circus act in MMA at a highly paid level so its less likely to happen. Toney got like half a mill to get embarrassed in MMA. How much did Butterbean or Kimbo Slice make for their boxing circus acts? Guessing not half a mill.

MMA has had other circus acts. Lesner become a champion off of a largely a circus act angle at the start (although he did have high level wrestling experience so it seemed more circus act-ish then it was). CM Punk is about to be starting his circus act. There isn't really anything comparable in boxing. Boxing hasn't had a Butterbean or Kimbo Slice type guy in awhile & I don't believe those guys to be paid as well as Toney, Lesner & CM Punk were or will be getting paid thus there is lil allure in boxing for the circus crossover from MMA.

If you give them money they will come.

Although I do think there is perhaps issues with contractual obligations with UFC & other high level MMA leagues having fighters cross over. The most notable UFC fighter to be talked about having a pro boxing match was Nick Diaz (a frequent Andre Ward sparing partner & top MMA guy + elite level pot smoker) vs Jeff Lacy a few year ago, but that was only on the table at all due to his being in between contracts & mighta even just been a ploy to get more money. For the most part elite level MMA guys get resigned before they are even out of contracts, not unlike boxers, & there contracts usually include clauses to not compete in other sports.

I will say I think there will be more crossover attempts being attempted moving forward. I feel like I see & hear of more & more MMA & Boxers who've had one or two MMA or boxing matches randomly so I think to some extent fighting is being seen as fighting for guys on the way up. I think a big part of this is more groundwork being laid at the amateur MMA level so guys can better learn & compete & more complete fighters are being made & discovered thru fire at a quicker pace.

                  Yea I hear you

Lesnar was a 4 time NCAA wrestling champion I think......grappling is the name of the game in MMA.....even the "kick boxers" swing like girls. Its almost like they hope for their punches to land in MMA

Most of the successful fighters or top notch wrestlers of BJJ....Lesnar hadn't wrestled in years in competition. That's like a world amateur champ in boxing going on a 4-5 year hiatus from the sport and win a title in his 4th fight...will never happen

McGregor could have been a good boxer. Not saying an all-time great or anything, but you're being delusional if you don't think so.

He has the right proportions to do it. Long ass reach for his size as well. Could have been a very good fighter from welterweight - middleweight.
