Comments Thread For: Warren Will Still Pursue Crolla For Flanagan-Mathews Winner

ANTHONY CROLLA will be offered £500,000 to defend his WBA lightweight title against the winner of Terry Flanagan v Derry Mathews.

WBO champion Flanagan and Mathews face each other on February 13 in Liverpool.

Promoter Frank Warren is keen for the winner to face Manchester fighter Crolla later this year.

Do Hearns and Warren often work together? I can't recall to be honest really.

It makes sense, a local city, domestic fight between between Flanagan Vs Crolla for 2 titles, sells well in Manchester.
In football terms, one is a red and one is blue..so that will be an add in factor for fans in Manchester.

If Matthews wins, there is the Liverpool Vs Manchester rivalry to help sell. Also the fact that Matthews holds a win and a draw against Crolla to date.

I wouldn't mind seeing these domestic fights for the title, but i do feel Barroso should get his shot at Crolla.
I'm sure Hearns would rather see Crolla face someone else other than Barroso though.

Very, very rarely. Hearn let John Ryder fight Billy Joe Saunders on a Warren show a couple of years ago. Think it was for a British title. Apart from that, they haven't worked on a main event together. Just let their small-time fighters occasionally appear on the other's show. There's always been a lot of enmity between the promoters, stemming back to when Barry Hearn and Frank competed against each other in the early/mid 90s. Frank wouldn't even let Barry climb into the ring with John Ryder when he fought Saunders; he got security to intervene and prevent Hearn from standing in the ring. So that was kinda unprofessional and no doubt the Hearns have remembered this.

Personally, I think Flanagan beats Crolla all day long. I can't see it happening, though. Eddie won't let Crolla fight on BoxNation and Frank won't want Flanagan to appear on Sky. So it's basically dead in the water.

Cheers for the info mate, that helps clear things up :ANYWORD:

Yeah i agree, can't see this one being a go'er.
Also agree on Flanagan beating Crolla. Previously i would of picked Crolla but Flanagan has come along nicely i feel.
