Comments Thread For: De La Hoya Confident of Canelo Blasting Out Cotto in Rematch

WBC middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (46-1-1, 32KOs) is scheduled to return to the ring on May 7th.

Canelo captured his belt last November with a twelve round unanimous decision over four division champion Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33KOs) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Then why didn't he do it in November if it was so easy?

Because he had the Cotto fight in November. Duh.

Edit - WTF??? I must've been on something when I read and wrote this, and misread the title. Apologies.

Is there really a demand for a rematch?

So Canelo didn't KO Cotto in November because he was fighting Cotto in November.

Sad thing is, if De La Hoya said it, some Canelo fans would believe it.

Like Canelo is JRMW because he fights at 155. Umm, ok.

Here is the demand. De La Hoya knows if he fights Cotto again, then he can say after Canelo needs an easy fight before fighting GGG, pushing it back another year.

It's a coward play for more time. Canelo fans will deep throat it.

Got it, one last opportunity at a good payday before taking a chance on GGG wrecking his career.

Yawn: Translation I'm trying to find a way for Canelo to make decent money while avoid GGG for another year.

I'm kind of disappointed in Cotto. Not with his performance, but not insisting on a rematch. I think he must feel like he can't beat Canelo. Even if he feels that way, fight Amir Khan @ 150, don't fight 42 yr. old Marquez! That's not swag!
