One thing I have noticed though is that Fury did recover fast both times that I have seen him hurt. That's pretty amazing.

That said, I still can't believe he beat Wladimir, even if is the oldest version of him. Still shocked. I just couldn't see that one coming at all. Wlad was still decently sharp against Bryant.

Thats what happens when you posture up and don't look to throw too many shots, the fight was close and was far from what some make out as a lop sided victory in favour of Fury.
Let his hands go more freely and there was plenty of opportunities for him to do that in a smart manner, hopefully he has done his homework and in the rematch If he is doubling up the jab and so on he should be fine for a win.

That's where you have to give credit to the slick boxer with a high ring IQ in Fury. Some of us here saw it coming a long way away, but with only the eye test and a weak resume we had no choice but to let things play out as expected and drop the tired but accurate "I told ya so".

What's perplexing to me is where the doubt ever came from. I didn't watch his earliest of early fights, but I was on the train before Cunningham, and while he's improved dramatically since then, he always had the intangibles, he has the body size, and he is an intelligent boxer who can put you down with both hands, has a myriad of punches at his disposal he is effective with, and is a very slick and elusive fighter. The good news is he is also a showboater and likes to have fun, thus he gets tagged. People then do the mistake of saying "oh well he got tagged, crappy defense". That's not true at all, and I gave guys like Naseem and RJJ as two fighters who have great defense and reflexes but drop their hands and showboat and have also gotten tagged as a result. (then New England tried to deflect and say I was directly comparing those fighters...)

I have been boxing for many years and I see things in fighters which don't take me long to spot, or assess, I don't need to wait for 10 fights to pass and see them beat an elite opponent before I say "he has it".

Max Kellerman kept talking about "conventional wisdom is that Wlad wins this fight and is the better boxer". I kept rolling my eyes in disgust saying "how? Fury does everything better than him, literally. Conventional wisdom should be that Fury is about to box circles around him", and he did. The problem is conventional wisdom is conventional, and doesn't lend itself to the deeper intricacies and nuances of the sport.

I still see people doubting Fury and it's honestly comical. If you don't like his antics or are truly an ignorant racist and it's that shallow of a reason, fine, I get it, you won't budge. But Fury is a master boxer, a tactician, If Sweet Pea, Benson, Floyd, Locche, and Ali had a gay orgy, inseminated a random broad with the bukkakke result, the result would be Fury. He is like the Weapon X of boxing. The prince Vegeta. And he will only get better, which is even scarier.

I mean there is very little the man cannot do and will not try, and his ceiling is still higher. To me it's every exciting to watch.

and there are plenty of examples of guys with good chins being caught with perfect shots [at the end of their careers the way lewis was in rahman 1.]


i think the best contemporary example that everybody, even those who aren't familair with boxing history, will recognize is williams getting knocked out by martinez. williams had a heck of a chin! you didnd't watch him fight if you disagree! he walked right in to a left hand from a decent puncher and was out like a light in one of the most brutal knockouts you'll ever see. and only one punch!

That is a good example. You are right. It can happen.

Oscar was shot because he had been in wars, partied too recklessly and didn't take care of himself, and had been more focused on promoting for a while.

All fighters don't exit their prime around the same time. Wlad has taken far less punishment, and there was nothing visible that says he doesn't have it anymore. Remember when people said the same after Floyd fought Maidana? How long did that last? Styles make fights, and ring IQ matters. Fury outboxes Wlad every time, and after the rematch, if Wlad doesn't retire, you will see Wlad taking out lesser fighters if his heart is still in it.
