Weight distribution difference-rear leg and front leg

Hello Forum. I am new one here. Please help me out with something. I am not sure if I understand it correctly.

If I keep my weight mostly on my rear leg (70-30), then it will be easier for me to advance forward. Since I already have my weight on rear leg, I can lift up my front leg and make a step, by doing so moving my weight from the rear leg to the front one. However I cannot retreat. Due to fact that my weight is on my rear leg, I have to move it to my frontal one before I can pick up my rear leg and make step backwards. Am I doing it correctly? Or am I supposed to kindof "jump" backwards without moving my weight to frontal leg first?

If I keep my weight on my frontal leg its opposite.

Do I understand it correctly? (I am aware of "sliding". I am not sure if I understand weight distribution correctly). Please help me forum. Thank you

If you keep your weight on your front leg it will reduce your punching power if you want to move forward from your back leg you just push off your back leg. You could also just shift your body from forward to back by just pushing off each leg in a shifting position. Sometime fighters put weight on their front leg to set up a counter by leaning forward than shifting back than throwing a right or left counter depending on your boxing style. Putting weight on your back leg also allows you to roll off punches do the James Toney shoulder roll than coming back with a counter. You don't jump you push off your rear leg and glide forward if you have your weight on your back leg and want to retreat you push off with your front leg than step back with your back leg. Try this drill every day stand in a boxing position and do this 100 times everyday push off your back leg going forward than push off your front leg going back you will see you will get quicker at this and it will also work your legs out. Also try doing in and out drills on the bag give the bag a 1, 2 than step back 6 inches and repeat the 1,2 going forward have a partner with this drill to keep the bag from moving do this drill for 30 seconds than rotate this drill will give you fast foot work
