Comments Thread For: IBF Nears Issuing Order For Gennady Golovkin To Face Johnson

If Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs), who holds the IBF middleweight title, is unable to consummate a deal with WBO belt-holder Billy Joe Saunders, the IBF is prepared to call on him to fulfill his mandatory obligation versus Tureano Johnson (19-1, 13KOs) as soon as possible.

Someone should let Tucker know his eliminator between Johnson/O'Kane was bull****.

They're supposed to give GGG 9 months to make the fight with Johnson (June/July) and then order a purse bid if they can't agree.

Each Champion so recognized by the IBF/USBA in his respective weight class from Mini Flyweight to Cruiserweight shall mandatorily defend his Championship within nine (9) months after its acquisition by him in a contest scheduled for twelve (12) rounds against a leading available contender as designated
          by the Championships Chairman.
Once this initial mandatory defense obligation has been satisfied, the Champion shall defend his championship within intervals of no more than nine (9) months against the leading available contender in his weight class as designated by the Championships Chairman.

If anything this might put more pressure on Saunders if he really wants that money.

WBA-IBF champion Golovkin's team last week made Saunders an offer believed to be £2.2million to face the Kazakh knockout machine in a world title unification clash...

"I believe I'm a better champion than Lemieux was so deserve more. They [Golovkin's team] are not chucking peanuts around but I'm not going in there just to pick the money up.

"If I take the fight with Golovkin I genuinely believe I could beat him but they have got to put some proper money on the table and if they do that then I will do it.

"I could earn that money against someone else. They are offering life changing money but it's not just about that because it would be a big risk for me.

"They've got to pay me more money than I would get for the Chris Eubank Jr rematch.

"Now I'm world champion I've got options and I could make my money elsewhere...

"I'm not ruling out fighting Golovkin next, I've got to talk to my manager and Frank Warren about it," Saunders said. "I will fight him but I would like it to be in England and if they can do that I would take a bit less, but they have to give me something.

The IBF are a pain in the ass to be honest. ******ly stripped Fury and now are trying to force a pretty uninteresting fight -- give the Saunders negotiations a chance FFS
