they may be "based" here in the usa but they aren't american, so it's still a rivalry when they fight an american, imo.

it was always a rivalry its the plot of a rocky movie for petes sake
i think it's been played down in recent years because well.... how often does the american win... 1/10?

you are correct, but it seems less talked about than the mex-pr, mex-jap rivalry.
maybe because the american boxers as of late can't keep up with the eastern block fighters?
