Would a win over Canelo put Golovkin's resume above Kovalev's?

I think most of us can agree that Kovalev currently holds the superior resume however, his best win is still a 50 y/o Hopkins. Aside from that and a win over Pascal, he doesn't have much to go on. He'll be fighting Pascal in an unneeded rematch as well.

And when it comes to GGG, his best win is Macklin or Lemieux (depending on who you ask), but it's agreeable that his resume is lacking, period. So let's say he disposes of Canelo some time next year. Who's resume would you hold to a higher standard at that point?

The reason I ask is because most publications that have Pound For Pound ratings currently have Golovkin higher up than Kovalev, even when most agree that Kovalev's resume is greater of current.

GGG's resume is very good. He wins his fights by such a large margin it's incredible. He wins well over 90% by KO. He has no losses, no draws and nobody has ever hurt him or knocked him down. You can count on one hand the number of rounds he has lost in his pro career. He has knock out wins over Rubio, Macklin, Geale, Murray,Stevenson, and Lemieux who were all rated among the top 10 middleweights in the world at the time he fought them.

thats because "resume" is not the leadng qualifier when it comes to P4P, nor should it be. Resume only shows what fights they have been able to get made. It is not a complete picture of the fighters skillset or intangibles.

P4P on the other hand, looks at the totality of the fighters qualities, and a prediction is made as to how they would do against fantasy opponents regardless of weight. Sure, resume is one of many factors that go into it, but amateur career, physical attributes, skillsets, power, ring generalship, all those other factors go into it. Now YOU might give resume more weight than someone else, but P4P is totally subjective, and merely someones opinion. There is no right or wrong......

I agree GGGs resume is pretty underrated. He has decisive KOs over some good fighters who were ranked top 10 when he beat them.

He gets WAY too much crap on here from idiots who know nothing about boxing, calling guys like Murray and geale "cans".

Sure those guys aren't superstars and not elite level talents, but they are nonetheless high quality boxers, and to completely dominate and stop them is impressive.

Definitely. Canelo has a pretty heavy resume and is one of the top fighters in boxing atm and those are rare. GGG has already fought some top class boxers in 2015(Murray, Lemieux) and those have been utter domination. I'm just hoping the BJS fight gets made so that the september one will be to decide the ultimate champ. But even if not, the MW is close to unification. If Canelo wins then I'm sure he will aim to be undisputed champ as well. All in all, hopefully the MW division gets unified by 2017.

                big **** boom.

p4p lists are about fights handicapped for size, not resumes.

if these guys were all the same size, who do you favor based on abilities and accomplishments? that's what a p4p list asks.

and to answer the question, yes it would!

canelo IS a mw. 155 lbs is a MW. his team are trying some silly stuff keeping him there. it's obvious they want to portray canelo as a small MW, and get a catchweight when they fight golovkin.

canelo will probably weigh within 5 lbs of golovkin on fight night. he might even weigh more!

canelo's a heck of a fighter. i really believe that. he's not lightning quick, but he's got a lot of the other tools. very calculated offense. hard puncher. solid chin. he's got a world of experience for a fighter so young.

he reminds me of fernando vargas. vargas, if any of you care to remember, was a heck of a fighter. he just happened to run into felix trinidad and oscar de la hoya, two brutal punchers and bonafide stars, early in his career.

Is that the bar now is to accumulate a better Resume than Kovalev? I'm sure GGG has higher aspirations than just matching or surpassing Kovalev resume

But I guess a win over Kovalev would at least match Kovalev Resume
