A deal has been struck for Jose Pedraza (21-0, 12KOs) of Puerto Rico to make a mandatory defense of his IBF lightweight championship against Stephen Smith (23-1, 13KOs) of the UK.

According to the International Boxing Federation, the fight is going to take place on March 26th in New York. A purse bid had been scheduled for earlier today, but canceled after both sides advised the sanctioning body of their agreement.

Same day as Ceja goes to war and beats Ruiz again.

I don't think Smith will win but he'll give a better account of himself than most believe. Hopefully Hearn showcases his younger brother, Callum, to ze American public - you'll be hearing a lot about him soon.

This is they guy who didn't want to fight in Puerto Rico but was fine fighting in New York? I fail to see the difference really.

Cherry did give Pedraza hell but I think he will be better for it, if he doesn't improve he is no certainty to beat anyone decent.

Danny will probably be back too then.... I'm going to guess NY means Barclay's.

This fight sure as hell won't headline it

Ok so Smith doesn't want to fight him in Puerto Rico yet will fight him in NY where there's a huge Puerto Rican population. Makes sense! It's like Like refusing to fight in Mexico but will fight in California or Texas.

I think Pedraza learned that if he is winning boxing, don't go to a war just be smart all the time.

he didn't want his fans to have to travel to puerto rico. NYC on the other hand is easy to get to and makes for a great weekend
