Why are Japanese fighters so reluctant to travel?

Japan produces some great boxers and many prospects that follow. But they only seem to ever want to fight in Japan. Never elsewhere, why is that?

The exact same reason every well known fighter from any country stays in their own country. They're going to get more money, more popularity, bigger and better deals and are less likely to get robbed.

It's no different than any US fighter rarely, if ever, leaving the states. Why leave a top HBO or Showtime main event to go fight on the undercard of a big German promotion for less money, and little long term gain? Japan is a popular country for boxers and they're well known. Why would they leave to go somewhere where they're not going to get much money and where they have little backing?

Exactly, not to mention but most Japanese fighters are in the lower weights were there's not as big of a market outside there homebase

Only recently have British fighters started to travel more regularly and that reason is the PBC money that's been thrown around

What this guy said PLUS in the lower divisions, a lot of the top fighters are from asia and latin america and none of them have a problem traveling to japan

I agree with BennyST. Makes no sense financially to pay all that money if you do not have to.

Same reason everyone stays in the same place basically. Easier & more comfort. For boxers specifically more money or the means to more easily know your revenue streams & how much money you should get or the extra money you get paid isn't worth the extra trouble you walk into. The reality is few love to globe trot in or outside of boxing.

Granted its a sexier concept for title holders to be a "champion of the world" by fighting all over, but there are surely a lot of annoyances & just things people hate or would rather not deal with involved in traveling. Can't blame Japanese fighters or anyone else for staying home when the upside & ease/comfort of that transition isn't a worthy exchange.

However, if Walters doesn't back away from a proposed fight, you might see Japan's best fighter in Vegas pretty soon
