  • Degale vs Golovkin who wins

James Degale was an Olympic Gold Medalist just like Ward, and is now arguably #1 at 168 since Ward has moved up. Since Ward/Froch vs Golovkin won't happen, Degale vs Golovkin at 168 may be the next best fight.

Degale is entering his prime and has looked really impressive schooling Bute and Dirrell, he's like a more active version of Ward and to me looks just as skilled.

So who would win between GGG (King of 160) vs Degale (King of 168)? IMO Degale would outpoint GGG by Unanimous Decision due to him being bigger and slicker.

I really like Degale's game and I think he's moving in the right direction. But he is not quite as aggressive and polished as GGG. Degale will dominate and then gets a sense he's dominating, coast and actually have to fight back up to the level he's capable of. GGG either smashes people or lets them recover and toys with them, but he is in complete control just about every second. It's scary. I would take GGG against anyone from 154 to 168 right now

I think DeGale has more talent and is the better athlete, but Golovkin is a much more consistent fighter.

If DeGale is on his game I think he would do a very good job at outboxing Golovkin but he switches off Golovkin is going to make him pay a price for that bad habit because he is going to be there.

It would be an interesting fight though because of that dynamic it could go either way because DeGale might be focused the whole time and do an amazing job or he does the usual making the fight much closer then who knows how it could go. That on/off stuff is destined to cost him at some point.

i agree with your opening statement. With that said, Degale has faced the better opposition, even early in his career he was fighting a guy like Groves. That would be an awesome 50/50 fight to me.

It would be an easy KO for GGG. DeGale is not very good for a champion in my opinion. He loops his wide punches and doesn't seem to throw straight punches. GGG will see his punches coming and easily avoid them while pounding away with jabs and strait rights.

Disagree, Degale has yet to beat a world champion and his best win is over a guy people thought was shot to pieces in a tougher than expected fight.

It is certainly a 50/50 fight but it should not be because it all hinges on DeGale's effort/mindset/motor (whatever you want to call it). If a fight is all about one guy in some ways how can it really be 50/50.

I love DeGale's ability but the consistency of his effort over a 12 round fights makes me cringe, he might be the most frustrating guy for me to watch currently.

This, Degale also has poor stamina and is fragile. He'll be stopped in the mid rounds.

If DeGale's fights the way he did in his last 3 , GGG have a good chance to add a belt at 168

GGG is not a big dude and as a pro he has he never fought at 168. Degale is the physically bigger and stronger man. I'd love to see GGG move up to 168 but only time will tell if he'll be the same beast at Super MW.
