Comments Thread For: Sulaiman: Boxing's Next Superstar To Emerge in 2016
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman has been discussing the boxing landscape with the hole that was left by the recent retirement of five division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. [Click Here To Read More]
If Wilder beats Povetkin and then fights Fury, I think the winner of that could be a huge star, and have big fights with Joshua, Ortiz, Martin etc. that would built them further.
Maybe if the top welterweights start to collide a star will emerge but none of them seem to have that kind of potential as things stand. Canelo will probably be the top draw until he loses.
That is like saying there will be an outbreak of war in 2016. (But like where or when???)
or... a rap star will become famous in 2016 .. yeah, well .... but who FFS !!!!????!!!!

I think the winner of Golovkin- Canelo will become the biggest star. Not because they will deserve it though but because they are already over-hyped.
Golovkin I love and he looks amazing what with all the 21 stoppages in a row. I mean who does that against a string of division top 20. All the Lil G and 97K haters are there for a reason - and that's because his rise has been meteoric in the last three years and it irks them. Because of retirements etc he is now a top 5 biggest star in boxing at this point in time. Not top 5 most talented maybe but making top 5 noise.
Canelo is the prince in waiting or at least that is what he is being billed to be. Not only that he has gone in tough and is maybe the top PPV star in the sport. Good looking kid and delivers in the ring, steel balls as in with Trout, Mayweather, Cotto, Lara. He has the resume too.
Now imagine Golovkin knocks him out cold - the hype will hit levels not seen since, well, I don't even know when. Global star status immediately.
Or, imagine Canelo knocks Golovkin out (I could envisage a tko ) - suddenly this is the kid who killed the monster. Ali-Liston anyone?
Yeah, I know GGG is not Liston and Canelo is no Ali - that is irrelevant - that is how it would be presented.
A quick shout out for Fury - when did you ever see a singing heavyweight?
He already has the superstar personality - if he can keep his titles for a few more fights he will be a huge star too as the singing stuff is pure crossover that mainstream tv channels will love to focus in on. Fury should talk up the God side more and turn down the volume on the ****phobic and sexist remarks for they will surely be a break on his popularity.
