Comments Thread For: HBO Exec Chimes in on The Next Circle of Network Stars

The Executive Vice President of HBO Sports, Peter Nelson, is very pleased with the way the 2015 calendar year has shaped up for the premium network. Mega-fights like Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao that they co-distributed and Miguel Cotto-Canelo Alvarez finally came to fruition.

I wonder what Nelson thought about Arum's comments about making Crawford a ppv fighter in a few more fights?

Arum has to put him on ppv soon. He knows Crawford will leave him soon as his contract up.

It would be a massive mistake to put Crawford on ppv, he needs to build up his name more and the only way to do that is put him in front of people. Nobody's buying a Crawford ppv unless it's a big name fighter like Manny. Maybe Arum is planning a Crawford/Bradley ppv? I don't think that'll do well.
“We have a number of very, very interesting names (for Crawford’s opponent),” Arum said. “And if Crawford would fight twice on HBO in the first seven months of this next year, then we’ll look to break him out on HBO Pay-Per-View after that.”

Crawford has that good homebase so any fight he has from Omaha will it least look good on TV.

I agree he shouldn't be rushed to PPV. If you put Haymon guys back on, Crawford can fight 3 times a year, maybe 1 per yr on PPV, in some really good fights.

What makes you think Crawford is gonna leave if no PPV?

Golden Boy, Top Rank, and K2 have plenty of next generation top tier talent that will be shown under HBO. From guys like Slava, Jo Jo Diaz, Felix Verdejo, Oscar Valdez, Sullivan Berrera, and other prospects will be shown plenty I bet next year on HBO.

The key for these guys is not to be rushed to fast to get to the top. Also for the boxing promotions linked to HBO for them to try to find other networks or platforms to showcase there blue chip prospects other than their main stars on HBO.

HBO had a hell of a 2015. Hopefully they can continue that momentum into 2016 and give more dates to the promotions under the HBO umbrella.
