  • British Middleweight Title or WBA 'regular' World Title?

    No contest, the British Title.

If you're not British then you probably wouldn't understand as national titles are not held in the same esteem anywhere other than in the UK.

We all know the WBA is a bent, crooked and bung driven organisation that hold little-to-no credibility these days. Their 'super', 'regular' and 'interim' straps have devalued and diluted them to such an extend that people are turned off at the prospect of fighting for their sticky belts.

Team Eubank have made a fantastic stand. Nevermind about Jabobs and his 'regular' world champion status, GGG is the man at MW, end of.

Team Eubank realise the prestige and honor of fighting for the Lonsdale belt and i absolutely applaud them for sticking to their guns and taking that route. No one is ducking anyone, Jnr's career has only just begun and big international fights will materialise in the next 12-24 months, there's no rush.

If he beats Nicky Blackwell and wins the coveted Lonsdale belt, more so defends it 3 times, then he'll treasure both the belt and the achievement forever, far more so than beating someone for a REGULAR world title!

Good for Eubank, putting boxing first.

I agree, as currently the WBA regular belt doesn't mean anything, as we all know GGG is the real wba champ and Jacobs isn't. The British title actually showcases who is the best british fighter, at the weight not currently at the world stage.

Eubank is making the right choice here, as it also keeps the road open for a saunders rematch or a possible, in house fight with Lee.

Yeah but Eubank and Eubank Jr have been ****ing the drum to fight GGG.
Fighting Jacobs would put Eubank Jr 1 win away from cashing in those wolf tickets(just like Lara would be).

I agree but by winning the British title, it further raises his profile and still leaves the door open to Jacobs and Saunders or a possible fight with guys like Lee or Macklin or Lem. GGG can wait for him as it's clear he isn't ready yet.

i dont think winning the belt will do him any favours really, he's more well known than another other british middleweight, including BJS (even though he's a world champ) and defending it domestically 3 times will hinder his progression if he's not being tested by world level operators. He'll settle back into posturing, low work rates and blowing people out.

Obviously world title > domestic title unless the world champ is shitter than domestic opposition and that is certainly not the case.

Lonsdale is a coveted title because of it's age and symbolism rather than anything pertaining to being a special fighter.

How can you guys say the WBA regular title doesn't mean anything to Eubank when the guy was **** over his WBA interim belt? He refused the Saunders rematch b/c he refused to drop the WBA interim belt.

Eubank is like water, he'll flow in the path of least resistance.

The WBA belt gives you a 75/25 split over your opponents until you face the super champ 18 months down the line. I'd say it is very much important than the British title.

When Golovkin was the WBA interim champion he pressed his mandatory status to fight Sturm and later N'Dam & Geale. Eubank was content just to hold his title and pretend to be a champion.

If Sergio Martinez had offered to fight Golovkin, GGG would've jumped at the chance (K2 offered to go to Argentina in place of Murray). One reason GGG broke from Universum was because they didn't push for him to fight Pavlik in '09. Eubank isn't pushing for any big names, hell I'd like to see how he'd handle Willie Monroe.
