Comments Thread For: Anthony Joshua Wants To Keep Building For 12-18 Months

Olympic gold medal winner Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15KOs) is motivated to continue building and growing as a fighter.

Following his big domestic title win over Dillian Whyte, the British champion is going to pursue the European heavyweight title currently held by Robert Helenius.

Joshua wants to take his time by jumping right in to a blockbuster fight with someone like David Haye or current WBO/IBO/WBA heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

I like this kids attitude. He understands he has more work to do and seems willing to put in the effort. You Brits might have something special on your hands in a couple of years, suck it.

With Teper out, could be Helenius-Chisora II next and Joshua can face the winner.

I wouldn't mind seeing him against Ustinov. He needs someone who can take him rounds and challenge him the right amount, and Ustinov is about the right level. Plus it'd be fun to see Joshua against a size disadvantage as that's what he can expect if he reaches the top. Eddie Chambers is another guy who would take Joshua rounds and be coming to win. Or if those are considered too much too soon then Takam or Eric Molina could be interesting although basically foregone conclusions. It might be too early for him to face Cunningham or Thompson but would be worth making, difficult learning fights.

Good good he needs to take his time he is building perfectly, 15 fights is not much, he needs a good 18 months and maybe 8 fights to keep building he is all class. Helenius is no easy fight either careful with that one.

Thats the way I would go about it. Take your time and continue to learn. Slowly build yourself into an intelligent, skillful fighter to go along with all your physical gifts.

Don't rush. Masterpieces take time to craft.

It's a good idea. He needs to go through the steps.
Whyte was a good learning fight for him, and he will need some more instead of rushing into big fights.

He's coming along nicely and avoiding the temptation to rush into things is a good idea.

He's got the right idea. But many people would like to see him against wilder, fury or haye now for selfish reasons really as people think they'd be great fights.

Smart. Tony Thompson, to get a southpaw in against him would be a good fight before the Helenius/Chisora winner.

Eddie Hearn is moving him along nicely.

Huh? Everyone slammed Wilder over the past two years for not facing top guys but Joshua gets a pass?? Don't misunderstand, I believe both guys should be given respect for the fact that they have things to work on and don't need to be pushed to the wall. That's how you build a great boxer. I just don't get the inconsistencies among members here.
