      Was it Beterbiev?
Barrera was supposed to be in an IBF eliminator vs Beterbiev, however he was unable to secure a passport to travel into Canada and GYM insisted that the fight take place in Canada and so he was dropped from the contest. Then Beterbiev got injured and Barrera was able to get back into the IBF eliminator and is now Kovalev's IBF mandatory.

It was Roc Nation Sports COO David Itskowitch who hinted at Big Fights for Ward in 2016 on top of the Kovalev fight likely at the end of 2016 if everything goes well for him at 175 in his other fights of course

Thanks for the clarification on that. I didn't know about the second half in your statement.

I just remembered hearing rumblings about SB-Beterbiev fighting and then it fizzled out.

FYI... I think Beterbiev would've and still would stretch him.

If he's Kovalev's mandatory, where does that leave SB vs AW?

the thing is these people pretend to be unbiased boxing fans. it really is quite hilarious. ggg fights willie monroe jr who is ranked 14th and has a better resume than sulivan. oh that was a farce! ward vs the 23rd ranked guy BIG FIGHT I KNEW WARD WOULD COME THROUGH!

even if ggg moved up a division and fought tyron speuge who's ranked 23rd would they be calling it a big fight and saying ggg came through? my guess is no since ggg moving up and fighting froch wasn't good enough.

maybe these ward fans know barrera super well. i mean he's 33 and has had 17 pro fights, but he's from cuba so he must be good! more stereotypes and bias creep in until they have convinced themselves that this is indeed the fight of the century!

Yeah because Rankings always tell the full story right

Try actually WATCH FIGHTS instead of just checking Boxrec Rankings to determine if it is a good match up

Boxing is not a popularity contest, just because you may not know a guy doesn't mean he is not good. Barrera is extremely talented and would be a dangerous opponent for a guy that never fought at 175

2016, 2017 don't matter when it happens just as long as it happens!

Oh right I forgot, "Ward Is Scared" So scared that he moved up to 175 instead of staying at 168 right

What makes this fight so dangerous for Ward is he's fought 3 times in the last 3 1/2 years. Ward is not a KO puncher, is moving up in weight and relies heavily on skill. Being that skill is his advantage, the question is how much of the layoff will effect his skill/timing against a tough guy who's a Top 10 fighter according to the IBF and is a soon to be mandatory for Beterbiev and Kovalev.

Whereas GGG is a comfortable 160 lb'er, with concussive KO power and Willie Monroe, bless his heart, couldn't bust a g****. He fought very honorably, but was a heavy underdog heading into the fight with his only hope being to stick and move and win a close decision. He had just as much a shot at hurting GGG as Paulie M had to hurt Cotto.
