Comments Thread For: Saunders: Realistically I am 18 months away from Golovkin

BILLY JOE SAUNDERS and Liam Smith are gunning for Miguel Cotto after they continued the British boxing boom.

Hatfield-based Traveller Saunders, 26, became GB's 12th world champion when he wrenched the WBO middleweight strap from Ireland's Andy Lee on Saturday night.

Just fight Canelo, have the belt lifted off.

You get your payday and maybe we get all 4 belts unified

Billy Jo it's not a good look for you to only want to fight Canelo and not want to fight GGG or even Jacobs.

It sounds like your have already mentally told yourself you can't beat GGG. That's not a good mind set if you want to be established as the best Middleweight in the world.

You make us boxing fans think your weak minded if your thought process is like that. Just say that their are more benefits fighting Canelo than any other Middleweight, which is true Canelo will get you a career payday.

Right! Make A Few Paydays Before U Get KOd By GGG

Win the middleweight belt, then call out two Jr Middleweights. Weak

Makes sense. Jacobs has to fight Eubank next. If Saunders can't get Nelo or Cotto next, he'll likely take a gimmie waiting on the Jacobs-Eubank winner. Fight that at the end of 2016. And if GGG is still there after that, that's the logical next step. Don't understand why folks getting their panties in a bunch.

I think thats a fair estimate. People keep acting like champions should fight champions, but the reality is all champions aren't created equal & if boxing was ran like most sports GGG would likely be "the" champion right now. BJS probably would be a top 5, maybe just a top 10 guy & 12-18mos+ from a "real" title shot anyway. I don't get the criticism coming BJS's way with this sorta comment.

Personally I think he'll get some offer that will appeal to him next regardless, if he's lucky it'll be Canelo. I could see Jacobs being on the table. If Cotto keeps fighting & wants a title fight I'm not sure I could think of a better option for him than BJS. And I don't think its crazy GBP or PBC would wanna try to get Lemieux & Quillin back in a title situation vs BJS either. Or maybe he even goes for Eubank II, but I think he should be looking at bigger pastures right now.
