Comments Thread For: Liam Smith To Defend WBO Belt "3 or 4" Times in 2016

Liam Smith will have “three or four” defences of his WBO World light middleweight title in 2016 according to his promoter Frank Warren.

Smith, broke down and finished a game Jimmy Kelly in seven rounds tonight at the Manchester Arena and ends 2016 having made a successful first defence of his world title.

u just read an article about the worst champion in boxing thinking that he can defend in success for full year...meaning we should get ready for ****ty fights, but this guy has no chance vs even the likes of Vanes, kirkland, and maybe even k9

I like Liam Smith, i think he's a good fighter and would probably get in the ring with anybody but Warren will have other ideas.

History tells Warren will have Smith defend his title against very average contenders for a long time, until a big payday that's too big turn down presents itself.

Aye, problem is I can see him coming unstuck against one of those very average contenders. I reckon Smith will fight Brian Rose early next year with someone like Zaveck making an appearance.

Soro is #1 in WBO rankings at 154, he'd put a beating on Smith tbh. Outside of Kelly who Smith just beat, Ahmet Patterson is the only Brit in the top 15 at #12... I dread to think.

We have a few developing world champions in boxing right now. By this I mean guys who hold a world title but are still developing and are learning as they go along with defending their belt, before truly being ready for top level opposition and unification clashes. Wilder is an excellent example of this. Smith is another one... Will be interesting to see who exactly he defends against and how the caliber of challenger increases each time as he remains very active

I really think Amir Khan should move up for one fight, take Liam's belt and move back down. Easy fight for Khan.

Funny enough even Frank Warren proposed this fight a few days ago.
