Comments Thread For: Early Results From Mexico: Juan Montiel Wins

In the televised opener, 21-year old middleweight Juan Montiel (19-2, 19 KO) showed off his clear power again in upending undefeated Ivan Montero (19-1, 8 KO) in three rounds. The referee was Miguel Canul.

A right hand dropped Montero hard early in the third and Montero struggled to signal he was okay to go on when he got up. Eventually he acknowledged the referee enough to get a chance but a Montiel salvo ended matters along the ropes at :47 seconds of round three.

I can't think of anybody he's beaten so not too sure he's ready for a title shot.

Juan "Juanito" Montiel is extremely limited in regards to skill, but his power is rather impressive. He pulls off the KO's out of nowhere, the shots that do his opponents in don't even look all that powerful.

Anyway, I'm excited for El Alacran. His loss last year seemed to have made him too gun shy in his first couple of fights back, but now he seems to have regained his confidence with a lot more composure. He's maturing as a fighter and his skill is increasing as well. He has nice, fluid combinations, accuracy and game changing power. I would love to see him against any belt holder at 130 next year, he has what it takes to hang.
