... this is always coming back to the "Cuban minimalism" -- most people don't actually understand it...

I'm not sure who the big puncher would actually be either, the three strong punchers that aren't currently champions are probably Barroso, who is fighting Crolla next, Zlaticanin, who is fighting Linares next and Commey who is highly ranked by the IBF, so he is a possible mandatory challenger for Barthelemy down the road. I wouldn't be surprised if Barthelemy doesn't even stay at 135 for long too.

You make a good point. Shafikov is one tough hombre. Not too many dudes can bring that kid of pressure and stamina. He took a lot of punishment, which finally resulted in that gash over his right eye. Most fighters would've been stopped.

Yeah, Barthélemy could turn out to be the best current lightweight. He's talking about multiple divisions, so you may be right, Rances could move up again soon. I have reservations on his ceiling, but the guy has continued to impress me.

Yes , he was. Shafikov is ok for 135, Barthélemy not.
how about this diego corrales was 6'1 and fought his entire career at 130 and 135...mostly at 130 even in the later portions...some guys are naturally tall with nothing but bones..go compare his legs to a ww's leg at the weigh in..u'll see that he's thin

That Usmanee fight was controversial. I had Rances winning a very close decision. I think I gave it to him by one round. A lot of people sided with the Afghan. I believe it was mainly because he was outclassed and kept fighting back in warrior fashion. I remember Brian Campbell, an ESPN boxing journalist, doing a piece on that fight a day or two later. He said he was outraged like a lot of others after the decision. But, upon watching the fight again, Campbell said he agreed Barthélemy won. In the end, it was a very close, hard-fought battle. Saying Rances got "a gift" makes it sound like Usmanee clearly won. Nothing could be further from the truth.
