    The Revival of British Boxing

Simon Block, the chairman of the British Boxing Council, has much to be proud of. Mr. Block pointed out, "We have four fighters with shares of titles. With Calzaghe and Hatton, we have two that are the best of their division." Calzaghe shellacking of Lacy gave British boxing a much deserve shot in the arm and recognition that, indeed, boxing across the pond is doing very well. [details]

British Boxing is in the worst state ever, and will only get worse.

Calzaghe and Hatton have been around for decades, but when they retire it's all Amir Khan. That's it, it goes no further.

Kids in this country don't go to the boxing gym no more, simple as.

no wait, in the 60s, the best we had was Henry Cooper... he was all right, but he was only a contender.

WHERE is the next Nigel Benn or Chris Eubank going to come from?? All black kids on council estates are getting into athletics these days (boxing hasn't been on terrestrial TV for 10 years, and we haven't had a black star since Benn and Eubank), the boxing gyms these days are ****ing empty compared to the 70's and 80's when they were full of kids coming in off the streets.

Oh and in the 70's we had household names like the Alan Minter's and the John Conteh's.

No it doesn't, but the ammount of white kids in the boxing gym has decreased ridiculously in the last 10 years.

However, I do believe that we'll see a lot more Pakistani's and Arab's getting into boxing in Britain - thanks to Amir Khan (and possibly the proposed comeback of Naseem Hamed on ITV1).

Well noticed, as they have began to come here from those dangerous countries and are hungry fighters. The hungry fighters are always the best.
