    In simple terms, if you don't rotate the hips your punch comes only from the arm extension so it doesn't have any power, if you rotate the hips, the trunk and shoulders follow the hip rotation and your punch has all your bodyweight behind it so it s much more powerful.

    all right?

      Just as the world spinning around the sun we can say- woop, my physics knowledge ran out already.

        Centrifugal force is the answer to the question.

          This.

          More specific;

          Centrifugal Force applies nicely to straight punches (flying outward of a curved path)
          Centripetal Force applies mostly to hooks and uppercuts (remain within curved path)

          Think of the conductor of your force being the center of your gravity; your hips and surrounding structures (abdominals, thighs). In order to ignite them, your lower body needs to rotate due it's relation to the ground.

            Ok guys I think ive worked it out.

            Basically with a rotation, there is alot of extra distance created (curved lines take a long time remember straight lines are the shortest distance between 2 points) So the more distance it takes the longer it has to BUILD up speed and power or momentum.

            If you took all that power in your hips and just pushed it in a linear direction (if that were even possible) the punch would take less time to get from point A to point B BUT it would be less powerful because it would have traveled less distance and built up less speed and power, so it would be faster from point A to B since its taking a shorter route, but wouldn't have reaches as high a speed before it got there because the shorter route leaves less time to build up speed n power.

            Rotation allows the build up of speed n power confined within a small space, the power comes from being able to increase and increase the speed and momentum, without needing massive linear distances to do so (which you would need if you where trying to generate power in a purely linear way)

            Thats why when you jab purely from hip rotation, your jab will be faster and more powerful but easier to dodge, because it took longer to build up that speed n power. Leaving time to get out the way.

            But if you just arm punch your jab out there, chances are they wont be able to get out the way even though the arm jab is traveling at a slower speed, the reason being is because theres no slow build up of power over a long distance , its purely linear.

            The rotational jab is also more telegraphic and using more starting force, but these are separate issues.
