Roy never lost in his prime. That's all that had to be said. Nothing he's done since then effects his overall legacy because boxing historians are not idiots, that's why Rocky Marciano is not the no.1 heavy of all time.

The Russian Government should invest some money and put Roy Jones on a program. Think of the movie 'The Truman Show' starring Jim Carrey to give you an idea. They should fix his fights and give him the best entrances to the ring. They should load up the arenas with 1000's of actors, making him feel like the old P4P King Roy. After a dozen fake fights, the Russian Government can then put together a brand new Roy Jones highlights youtube vide with Yall musta forgot as the theme song.

They should provide him with a mansion, even better than the one he used to have. It'll be like Michael Jackson and the Neverland Ranch, living in his own world. Pretty soon, the old swagger of a prime RJJ will be back, better then ever.

Well it depends how loosely you're applying the term 'boxing historian' and as you said, any worth their salt won't take this away from him. However, outside of people that truly understand the sport in the past decade - it'll go against him.

Either way, he needs to retire. Does he not have sons/nephews he could dedicate his time towards training to box? I think Roy definitely needs to be pushed into a training capacity, he'll have a lot to teach.

Roy was a great athlete, not fighter.

Just a great athlete would not have dominated the Olympics and have been ranked in the top ten P4P for more than a decade. Roy did what he wanted, when he wanted when he wasn't shot. He could jab if he wanted to as he displayed many, many times over the years against world class guys.

He didn't have good fundamentals. The reason he did what he wanted when he wanted was because he was so fast he could get away with it.

He fought however he wanted when he wanted because of his reflexes but he could out-box an opponent as well. See the Toney and Hopkins fights for reference. It's popular to say that he lacked fundamentals but that's far from the truth. Roy just was so fast and athletic that he didn't always have to use his boxing ability.

If he had fundamentals, then why did he decline so rapidly when he slowed down?

It's the "but we'll see" part that bothers me REED. I love Roy and just don't want to see him rendered twitching on the canvas again. I literally felt ill watching it this time.
