  • Cuban soccer player turns pro.....good signs for Cuban boxers???

    http://www.cubaheadlines.com/2015/12...l-leagues.html

Cuba has allowed a soccer player turn pro and go to Mexico to play professional...this might be the turning point of Cuban athletes turning pro...boxing promoters must start going down in Cuba & start signing Cuban boxers ...thoughts???

Mexican soccer clubs have to pay a fee to the Cuban Federation to sign the soccer player's ....his name is Mykal Reyes he might sign with Mexican Club Cruz Azul or Santos....I think it's possible Boxing Promoters could go down and pay a fee to sign a cuban boxer in the near future....?

Well the difference is Cuba's soccer team sucks ass and they wont be loosing much by letting an odd soccer player turn pro. I doubt the regime will feel the same way about letting go of their dominance in amateur boxing just 1 great boxer gone is a big blow to the program.

I would say it is a better sign for their baseball talent because there is real money in that. Baseball talent is pretty speculative but the track record of recent Cubans in the big leagues providing quick dividends is real.

In boxing the talent might be there but does it translate into real gain for promoters or whoever.

It is a good sign though even for boxing because the door for their athletes to enter the outside professional world seems to be getting easier.

I think Cuba already signed over the exclusive pro rights to their boxers to the WSB awhile back (maybe 6-12mos ago iirc). My assumption is AIBA gave the government in Cuba a pretty penny to lock them up already so they mighta already cashed in on Cuban boxers.

                    Here's the story.
The International Boxing Association (AIBA) made history today by becoming the exclusive partner for all Cuban boxers from the Cuban Boxing Federation whenever they compete in international boxing competitions.

A memorandum signed today between AIBA and the Cuban Boxing Federation (FCB) commits that all FCB boxers will only compete in AIBA-approved competitions, including the World Series of Boxing (WSB) and AIBA Pro Boxing (APB).

Both AIBA and the FCB have agreed that Cuban boxers will not be allowed to compete in any non-AIBA professional boxing competitions in order to protect them from being exploited by professional promoters as diplomatic doors with Cuba begin to open.
