Comments Thread For: Barroso Could Be Next Big ****er on HBO, Says Cohen

Ismael Barroso lived up to his billing as one of the hardest hitting lightweights in the world by halting the respected Kevin Mitchell in five rounds this past weekend at the O2 Arena in London, England. In doing so he captured the interim WBA lightweight title.

"It was a long time coming for Barroso to get this shot and he made the most of his opportunity," said his promoter, Greg Cohen.

If he gets the Crolla fight (if Crolla's team can't get a unification instead) and knocks him out I'm sure HBO would put him on. Him vs Gamboa would be fun.

He seems a decent puncher with a good win over Kev but there isn't anything special ther e. He is such a limited fighter.

Crolla will beat him and put an end to this useless hype.

I saw Barosso flailing some, his hooks were slaps. The problem is his straight shots do a lot of damage. It caused Kevin to fight carefully and still he finally walked into a jab. Crolla's fame is his mystery power, nobody ever saw it before his last win, and in his home town. Barosso stuck his head into the English lion's mouth, pulled some teeth. Two for one. He also put the run on Derry.

Did you even watch the fight? His boxing ability is highly underrated, he made Mitchell fight his fight all night.

Now watch Linares vs Mitchell and compare.

I've been interested in Barroso since he was supposed to face Matthews over here earlier in the year.

I was gutted for Mitchell but had a feeling Barroso would stop him. I hope he gets his shot at Crolla next like he is supposed to.

I did watch the fight. Mitchell is no longer at his best and Barrosa still gets credit for beating him as few were giving him a chance but there was nothing world class there.

I may be wrong, I hope I am because lw needs more than just a work horse, it needs a devastating puncher and I root for any guy who can fill that gap.

Crolla doesn't have much power but he is a workman like boxer who can break opponents down and does all the basics right.
