Comments Thread For: Chisora Has Plans, Not Too Interested in Joshua Bout

Heavyweight contender Dereck Chisora (24-5, 16KOs) is not very enthusiastic about facing rising prospect Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15KOs) on April 9th.

The 31-year-old boxer was in action last Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London, where he easily dispatched of Croatia’s Jakov Go**** in three rounds. The fight took place on the undercard of Joshua's domestic grudge match with Dillian Whyte.

    ooooo playing hard to get.

It is time they put Mr Humble in there with Teper, or the winner of Helenius-the guy who is filling in for Teper cuz that has the EBU title on the line.

Speaking of targeting Chisora I'll just leave his here:

If Sauerland signed Chisora it's to feed him to someone. That tells me either Wladimir is actually going to take a tune-up before rematching Fury or Vitali is coming back to avenge Wladimir. Neither would surprise me but I do not believe Sauerland signed him because they think he has a future.

Vitali would get schooled by Fury at this point, he's well past his best now plus he's been inactive. Chisora gave him one of the hardest fights of his career and in Vitali's own words "if he was faster I would have been in serious trouble". Fury is much faster than Chisora, he'll dominate Vitali at this stage and virtually humiliate him. Would be a sad sight to see.

But prime for prime that's a great fight which Vitali may or may not win. The problem is we saw what Chris Byrd did to Vitali with his movement, he frustrated him so much that Vitali started overshooting, injured himself and quit. Fury could do a similar thing if they fought prime for prime because he has very awkward movement so he can be very hard to time when he uses that defensive style.

That's BS. Unlike Wlad, Vitali has a chin. He'd walk through Fury's pitterpat punches and rough him up.

"Right now there's big fights for me in Germany"

              Er, what?

              What fights?

Who promotes David Price these days? Are Sauerland setting up that?

I already described exactly how that fight would play out. Vitali is too old and past his prime that Fury would beat him so easy at this stage of his career it would be deemed a mismatch. Fury doesn't want to go to jail for beating up on the elderly anyway so we should get the notion of a match up out of our heads and start caring for our elders.

You talking bout now or prime 4 prime? Prime Vitali lost to Chris Byrd, who's about the most feather fisted fighter in the sport. Even if you want to believe the loss was a fluke he certainly didn't just walk through him and rough him up, otherwise Byrd would have been outta there in two. Fury's not as defensively masterful as Byrd but he has a lot of the same awkwardness, and a lot longer reach. Plus he'd be able to see Vitali's slower and more telegraphed shots coming from a mile away. I'm not predicting a winner either way, but it's important to note that the only time Vitali fought an opponent near his size he was stopped, albeit in a competitive fight. Fury isn't Lennox but he brings his own tools to the fight which might make this a competitive bout. It's a shame we'll never get to see it.

On the subject of Fury's power, it's well to note that Fury tends not to go full swing on a lot of his shots in order to maintain speed and mobility. Throughout the latter part of his career he's shown that he prefers to throw less than full power combinations rather than just loading up. It's a big part of his herky-jerky trickster style. Keep the opponent off their guard with multiple shots coming from different angles along with feints and stance switches. When he does load up though he can be quite heavy handed, a la the Abell and Cunningham fights. He's a big lad after all, and knows how to put his weight into shots if he wants to. He'll never be Wilder or Joshua or Parker but he can hurt you if he has to.
