    Mayorga vs De La Old

Well like they say a win is a win, well a loss should be a loss too. The point I am trying to get across is that De La Hoya of yesteryear possed the skills to beat Mayorga, outbox and out work him staying out of the pocket. But we haven't seen that De La Hoya in so long hes lost his last three fights (IMO strum still is a loss in my book) and add a long layoff thats gonna give him troubles. He will have ring rust, his timing will be off, and his stamina which has never been his strong suit will be a huge question mark. Thing about it ring rust vs Mayorga being all over you in the first few rounds...timing trying to counter Mayorga unorthodox style....stamina when the late rounds kick in who do you think is gonna jump on their bicycle ala DLH vs Trinidad.

    Mosley.

If you look at that fight, DLH could have easliy been knocked out if Mosley had more power, Mosley is a blown up light weight who is extremly tanlanted and has quick hands but the power is just not there at this weight. He hit DLH with so many left hooks, if it were someone with power the story would have been written differently.

    Strum.

The last time DLH looked past a fight and on to a bigger pay day in Sep. was Strum. He came in looking like the pillsbury doughboy and his lack of stamina was evident. Strum's jab seemed to snap his head back every ten seconds. And the whole " I am gonna lands multiple combos" in the last 10 seconds of the round to win is getting old, I hope judges can look beyond that. DLH was not ready for STRUM, he had looked past him. He's looking past mayorga now, talking about Mayweather in Sep...I don't think hes ready for the style as he wasn't for Strum's style.

    Hopkins.

DLH knew he was gonna fade, and as soon as he saw a ticket it out he took it. He showed no heart in that fight. Yes he was not a true middle weight but neither was Mayorga when he faced Tito...and he didn't take the easy way out. He showed heart. So when things get tough for DLH what is he gonna do?

I think DLH could beat Mayorga hands down four or five years ago, he def had the ability to outbox, pick his shots, and basically stay out of harms way and still manage to win. But he is not the same DLH, no one thought Roy Jones would ever lose let alone get knocked out by Glenn Johnson...but the years catch up to you and all those gift descissones you get come back to haunt you.

Mayorga is the hungier, reletnless, bigger punch, heart and stamina...De La Old doesn't have Tito's power to bail him out of trouble when he starts running out of gas..

I am going all out on this fight, any point bets let me know and we can make it happen !!!

De La Hoya wins this fight by comfortable decision. He may even drop Mayorga once. I think Mayorga, while I enjoy watching him fight, cannot beat De La Hoya. Mayorga doesnt have the defense to nullify Oscar's offense, which is what troubled him against Sturm. Mayorga probably does not punch as hard as Bernard Hopkins, unless he lands a wild haymaker by chance, and the likelihood of that happening should be unlikely, considering the speed advantage Oscar definently has over Mayorga. I think 4 or 5 years ago, I would pick Oscar to KO Mayorga, but the Oscar of now with outbox him handily, and win a decision.

De La Hoya is going to pummel him. Mayorga only gets big fights because he drops his hands and lets people hit him and he's insanely controversial. Other than that, he doesn't have anything. I truly wonder how good Mayorga could be if he actually learned to box instead of just swinging for the fences.

I figured I would be in the minority, all of you have to admit there are some question marks there...I know Mayo is getting into his head, if he stands there and trades it maybe lights out...and what do you say bout his stamina?

if he didn't fight that way he would not have beat vernon forrest, the fight with tito would have been boring, and he wouldn't be getting this fight.
it is possible mayo's punches can hurt you because they come from a multitude of odd angles. i imagine it is hard to see the punches coming when he throws them off balance and from various starting points such as mayo's overhand chopping right. of course he is usually off balance because he just took 3 or 4 wild swings at his opponents head and missed. the opponent on the other hand is off balance and frustrated as well and from the bull rush and is then susceptible to this punch.
i actually think it is possible mayo could not only ko dlh early but win a decision.
How? whether his punches are actually connecting or not, his bull rushes and all out aggressive attack attract the judges attention and are percieved as effective.
i like mayorga, he comes to fight and everyone knows it. i think mayo pulls the upset of a lifetime because of a constellation of variables: he hurts dlh early, judge misperception, and dlh's deteriorated willingness to take a big shot.

I for one em' all for Mayorga to KO DLH,not really because i am from nicaragua, its more of a :i have never reaally liked dlh (and his politics) much sorta thing. I think DLH has a lot of advantages and anyone can see that but you cant count Mayorga out,he has power and incrediable heart and stamina. His best bet is to go for it hard in the early and late round (middle round, DLH will be outboxing him eaily). Early because he can catch dlh off guard or stun him and establish fear or late because DLH fades very noticeably and with Mayorga it can be lights out.

DLH with a pretty simple UD or (and i am hoping Mayorga KO in early (1-2) or late rounds.

Yo I never said I didn't like Mayorga. I do and I hope he KO's De La Hoya, but he won't. He suckered Forrest into fighting his fight twice, but you can't rely on that every time. Eventually you have to learn how to box, and Mayorga never did. De La Hoya will beat him up, but hey, it's Mayorga. Expect something wild.

all depends on Dela hoya's conditioning, if he steps in the ring looking like he looked against sturm than its all over.

if he comes in looking sharp and quick and is quick on his feet we might see glimpses of the DLH of old..

Anyways, i want this fight to be really decisive, either Delahoya should come in and knock out mayorga to restore his respect and go on to fight a few more fights. Or Mayorga should knock the hell out of Dela Hoya so that he retires and never comes back, he is already a legend and dont need more.

In spite of De La Hoya's ring rust and age, he should easily pick Mayorga apart, given his experience, skills, and the best defensive boxing trainer in the business in his corner. Mayorga could, of course, still get in a lucky punch, but given his self-destructive lifestyle, basically all he has going for him are his God-given KO power and youth....
