Anthony Joshua says he "made it tough for himself" before halting heavyweight rival Dillian Whyte in the seventh round at The O2.

The Olympic champion added the British title to his Commonwealth crown with a dramatic victory - coming through a rocky second round that saw Whyte land a short left hook that briefly threatened to swing the fight the way of the underdog.

Thats what early fights are for to make your mistakes now and not when it really counts. Like the way they rushed Zou Shimig into a title fight in what 3-4 fights? Ridiculous

I really like that he recognizes that he's not elite yet, and that he has more work to do before he's at world level. He had a shaky performance but still got his man out early, so good on him. If he keeps on his current path he's gonna be a killer.

At least he's more realistic than his fans.

You can't be rushed. Look at Lomachenko, i know he was an extreme case in how quick he was thrown in the deep end but the point remains that a man of his talent shouldn't lose to Salido in general, but the fact is you have to learn the pro game properly.

People saying Joshua could beat Fury, no he couldn't anytime soon. Fury just beat Klitschko and he looked the the seasoned veteran in there with the IQ and Klitschko looked lost so what is basically a 15 fight novice who's barely fought anyone with a pulse going to do?

People just need to let him get on with it and learn his craft but it's difficult when he can sell a PPV and sell out an arena with a decent opponent, that might be his downfall in the end because they want to keep the money rolling in and might take it a step too far. Like with Price, he was filling arena's in Liverpool and getting all the same praise AJ is but eventually people wanted to see him in with a decent name, so they brought in Thompson and look what happened.

I think he should take about 3 more guys who are at Whytes level.(maybe a rematch with Whyte, Arreola and Chisora) After that he can make the next step and fight his first Top10 opponents.

            Absolutely right.

He thought Whyte was done in round 2 and went for the kill, that led to him walking right into a clean, hard left hook. Big error. Make that mistake against someone like Haye and the fight us over with you on your back.

I'll give him credit for taking the shot and surviving, but he shouldn't be making the error that led to that situation and this fight will be a valuable lesson learned. The recovery and savage KO speak for themselves.

Imagine if he had the late and great Emanual Stewart in his corner. This guy has a lot of potential. I just hope he doesn't turn out to be another Frank Bruno.

I think so, i think that's where he can iron a few things out.

I'd say the gulf between the likes of Chisora and the top heavyweights like Wlad, Fury, Povetkin is pretty huge. There's not much middle ground so eventually you do have to jump in the deep end so for now i think he's best off fighting someone like Chisora, maybe a guy like Teper too could be a good test, i think he was the European title, he's undefeated and seems to have a bit of power and about similar size to Joshua.

I was there when Frank unravelled against Bonecrusher and at ringside for this fight .When the left hook landed and there was a slight wobble I thought the same thing but unlike Frank , Josh thankfully seems to have a better chin and was soon clear headed although the way he noticeably slowed in the third had me concerned but looking back this can only be a good learning curve.
I think the perspective he keeps is also encouraging, he's hard to match at this stage as he's so heavy handed but needs rounds.

Lennox said "get a decent trainer". This in my opinion is what Joshua needs, sooner than later, to develop him to elite level.
