Was the fact that Naz was so forcefully Islamic a large part of people disliking him?

You all miss the salient point entirely!

It's not the quality of this life that matters to them, it's the quality of the afterlife that has been promised to them!

even though endoctrinated at birth, uneducated, even brainwashed, it IS possible to be changed, there are survivors that testify of coming out of that mentality.

Although a boxing forum, this particular thread involves not only boxing, but also religion. There are many topics interwoven within many of these boxing threads, and often they are expounded upon. No member is forced to view any one certain thread.

yes i know this and i concur, he was still an amazingly talented boxer and the best featherweight of the 90's go check his reocrd or find me another's who is better in this time. you wont be able to.

i didnt like him at all (see my comments aobut shouting for barrera) but i find the fact that so called boxing fans tend to focus on his religious beliefs rather than his talent for the fistic arts somewhat disturbing.

Same here buddy... I'm thinking to myself "who gives a ****"

it's like, do you want to watch him fight or run for senate? for ****s sake. love the fighter for his skills, who cares if he's ****y or flaunts his religion

have some respect, imagine being in his shoes. You were born in England, the boxing circuit is weaker there, and you started thre. Then you made your way to the US, where the best competition lies. You slaughter the US rankings, of course you are gonna be ****y! have some respect kiddies, he's the best featherweight puncher that ever lived

The only proctectd guy in boxing right now is Gatti, Hamed was exciting just as much Gatti, and a winner never lost to Journeymen fighters like Ivan Robinson, Angel Manfreddy, or struggle with Joe Hutchinson (btw the same guy busted in two by Ricky (the Hitman) Hatton.

Hamed should never openly praised allah in the

how you can even compare those two fighters is beyond me

              Gatti's entrances were weaker
Gatti never taunted his opponent or smiled after catching huge shots, in fact Gatti tended to go down
Gatti didn't flip over the rope
Gatti is only fun to watch when he brawls, and his chin is nowhere near what Hamed's was
Gatti is american..so seeing him box here is less cool than watching a foreigner bust up our ranks

yeah. this was one of the 'edges' he had, by coming in last and making your opponent wait...there's a good chance he'll be cooled down by the time ya get in the ring, giving him the advantage.
smart fighters keep their robe on until the other fighter gets in the ring with them. Kevin Kelley took his robe off early and was cooled down before Naz even got in the ring.

That's kinda sad though, to use shady tactics like that just to get an edge. can't these guys just get in there and prove they are better by beating their opponents at BOXING?

I guess it was part of his gimick, to ride in on an elevated swing..

Yeah I agree with you there. It is a cheesy move, almost as bad as a lowblow.

They should throw in a new rule, you have a 2 minute limit to get to the ring. But then Hamed would stay in his dressing room like he did vs Barrera, rejecting pair after pair of boxing gloves. (that fight they both used gloves given to them by management)
