Barrera's Corner wasn't a factor in the defeat, it was stopped because of Jones

The guy threw a cup of water at Jones. He knew it was over.

But my main point, was that it was a bad comparison to compare Roger jumping in versus Team Barrera.

Barreras corner didn't come in to save Barrera they came in to seperate Jones from Barrera cause the bell rang and the ref wasn't doing his job. Team Barrera were puzzled that the fight was stoped and at first though they were going to continue to fight.

Thanks, Flyyy) has me bugged even more by the thought that the DQ was no more than a way out given to MAB (who was such a darling to many at the time-- even more so than now) to avoid the blemish of a stoppage loss on his record, which, until then, remained untarnished by even just a single loss.

Testament to how affectionately Barrera was treated by boxing media, at large, were the reams of paper and gallons of ink devoted to his announced plan to step off of boxing for a while to pursue a law degree. The Ring even went so far as to suggest that Barrera study law AND continue fighting, implying that there was no one within shouting distance of his (then) weight class who could give him any sort of trouble and that Marco would have more trouble reading lawbooks than keeping his sterling record intact.

MAB was a star on and off the ring and stars were and are often given special deals, whether or not they asked for them. The DQ appears to me as one of those special deals. Barrera, as is clear in the video, was already lumber going down when his cornerman went up and rushed to him.

Good post grayfist. Barrera was definitely held to a high standard of being this unbeatable boxer/brawler after his victory over McKinney. I have always thought that Barrera would be in bad shape should he fight high energy guys with good power however. Poison Jones was a slick boxer with a good punch and he beat Barrera about as convincingly as one possibly could. This is why Pacquiao gave Barrera so many problems...this is also why I think that Jesus Chavez would have beaten Barrera at 135. The in-your-face pressure and power seem to offset Barrera, who at this point likes to be a patient counter-puncher and selective attacker.

As I mentioned the corner came in after the bell rang and jones and barrera were still exchanging and well barrera was getting the worst of it but the bell had already rang. And out of frustratioin the cornerman throw water at jones.

Juarez is hype man. He has nothing for Barrera. Especially considering how gun shy Juarez is, I wouldn't be surprised if Barrera TKOs him.

Juarez definately has skills, but he's not fighting at his potential.

I just rewatched the fight cause last night my audio wasn't working as I made that gif.

Barrera's scoring came in clearly AFTER the bell and Barrera was down AFTER the bell. The ref stopped the fight AFTER the bell. Rewatch it.

In my clip you can see Barrera's trainer waiving it off as he goes across ring.

I as you see the potential Juarez has and this lose to Soto has gaven him a rude awakening, both in a paycheck sense and status sense. So he will fight his heart out in their with Barrera and score a win and I wouldn't be surprised if Barrera gets tko'd, Barrera is no longer a young fighter, Rocky is and has a new fire and will explode on Barrera come May.

Like you, I don't see any compelling basis for comparison. Other than both corners climbing up the ring, the similarities quickly dissolve.

Thanks again Flyyy for the video and the thread as a whole-- the exchanges have been enlightening. And yes, thanks lots for the K's! Tried sending some back to ya but couldn't! Sent ya a PM to explain.

Juarez has never seen anythin like Barrera. Barrera is going to win this fight hands down.
