Comments Thread For: Korobov Scheduled To Return on January 16 in Texas

It's been almost one year since Matt Korobov was in the ring. It was on December 13th, 2014 in Las Vegas that he was leading on all three scorecards against Andy Lee after five rounds before he was stopped in the sixth. That fight was for the vacant WBO middleweight title. Since then he's been dormant.

What was the reason he pulled out of the previous dates? And what kind of fight is he looking at in January? An 8 rounder?

He has the talent and experience to be a solid top 10 contender, but I've lost a lot of faith in his mentality to do so. Most I'm hoping for him now is to be a good gate keeper.

He would be a good fight for Canelo to wet his feet with a true MW and also a good stay busy for Jacobs.

Not so much for Golovkin - he needs to be seeking out the best.

You reckon? I don't know why that would be, he just got caught, that can happen against an agile puncher like Lee - although unlikely the same could potentially happen if GGG or Jacobs get in the ring with Lee.

I think mental breakdown happens when you think you are the best or that you are on the fast track to stardom and then get a severe beating. Thinking of Pavlik and more recently Donaire.

Nah, he was like this before the Lee fight. TR has expressed frustration with him before.

Given all his amateur credentials I thought that he could be a legit threat to Golovkin. Not sure what happened to him as a fighter in pros, but wish him all the best. He probably can have a couple of paydays.

I don't know if Korobov has what it takes to succeed in the pros. He's a good boxer but he's very tentative and his style has a lot of amateur characteristics. At 32 he needs to be making GGG type statements to noticed.
