Comments Thread For: Andy Ruiz To Return on January 16th on UniMas

Top Rank had been doing their best to keep heavyweight prospect Andy Ruiz (26-0, 17 KO's) as active as possible in recent months after going through a significant weight loss in 2015.

'The Destroyer' fought on September 26th, defeating Joell Godfrey over eight rounds and then on October 24th when he out-pointed Raphael Zumbrano Love in eight. He was scheduled to go against this past weekend in Fresno, California but that fight was nixed.

If Grant can't pass his medicals then he shouldn't be fighting.

Andy Ruiz needs to keep busy and active so he stays in shape. The Tucson show would have been perfect in my opinion.

This is what I dont like about fighters liek Ruiz who need to be active to stay in shape, THEIR is gonna be a time where he gonna go on a stretch on inactivity just due to his promoter not able to line up a fight for him tilll 11 months down the road etc and what happens then? he just gonna ballon back up like rios did and basically end their own career.

Boxers shouldent need to be babysitted in order for them to stay in shape.

It's hard to find no hopers without pre existing conditions. If Andy is fighting to stay in shape, it's not working. How about training and pushing away from the table?

I agree with both of you. He has to be responsible for his own weight.

But just being a realist, if I was Top Rank I would have had him fight in December. Don't let him stay idle too long. Gotta put him in position to succeed.

Keep in mind he is starting to work with Abel Sanchez now if I am correct. That man doesn't mess around in regards to your weight. He is extremely strict on his fighters and will kick them to the curb no matter how talented they are.

Perfect Example Frankie Gomez. Abel Sanchez said bye to Frankie because he wasn't doing multiple things that Abel was asking of him.

He could be a contender already if he could control his weight and shape. He has better style than Duhoppus or Molina, but he's not convincing. His appearance is disappointing and his wins are getting weaker.
