I heard that excuse that GGG was sick but I am not buying it because GGG has not been more active and thrown more punches in any other fight. When I am sick I have no energy Gennady threw like I don't know 800 punches at least in 10 rounds. Took too many punches by a light puncher mind you but still, maybe couple of hundreds punches. He was in shape.
GGG is a master at cutting off the ring, however...

Article I linked says nothing about him being sick. You're confusing Ouma with Rosado.I heard that excuse that GGG was sick but I am not buying it because GGG has not been more active and thrown more punches in any other fight. It's not an "excuse". Golovkin won and put his opponent in a hospital. I'm just pointing out that part of the reason why he had "trouble" with Ouma is because he barely slept the night before.
And no offense, I could not care less whether or not "you're buying it". You're guessing at the amount of punches and making conjectures because what I posted doesn't agree with your assessment.Comment

I 100% disagree. Although extremely skilled, the OP is correct. Although aggressive and effective at cutting off the ring but doing so does leave openings. Mike Tyson was a monster at cutting off the ring and implementing his skill and power on his opposition but much like Golovkin; his opposition never caught up but when it did; Holyfield showed the perfect game plan against an aggressive boxer. It all looks pretty and handy in text, but once you are in front of Gennady, you are up against something Godly. It sounds a bit arrogant but it's true. Gennady is the most impressive fighter combat sports has ever seen. Logic/gameplans/skills/etc dont work against a monster like this.
It's a matter of time till an opponent implements the correct gameplan and doesn't allow the hype of Golovkin to undermine his own skill and power!Comment

I think the slowness of his foot movement is a weakness he has in this respect. He's a slip and slide mover rather than a guy who stays on his toes. The advantages are he maintains excellent balance and conserves energy. The disadvantages are he just doesn't move as quickly as a guy who bounces on his toes in the ring. I think Golovkin can be turned and prevented from getting set (for a while at least) by a clever enough and quick enough fighter. But it's hard to see who that would be as there aren't a lot of guys out there who have that combination of mobility and close range slickness. Most likely clinching would yield better results which is why Ward would have success against him.
Another thing about Golovkin’s ring cutting is that he uses his punches to do it too. Like George Foreman in this video.
That’s what Buddy McGirt didn’t understand in the Macklin fight. He was telling Macklin slip to his left. But every time he tried Golovkin was hitting him with big left hooks.
Excellent post. I think as long as GGG is a hunter his slow footspeed is not a disadvantage, because he only needs to do one/two steps to neutralise opponents movement and till now it didnt matter if they have faster feet than him.Comment

Why do we have idiots comparing present GGG to GGG of 5-6yrs ago. The man has progress by leaps and bounds. The Ouma fight was when GGG n Sanchez just started hooking up. They werent in their mode yet, they were still transitioning into the Mexican Style. And of course, whatever background problem they had, we dont know of.Comment

Gennady had more of a Mexican style before Abel and to me he looked faster and more explosive, here's a fight that took place 2 years before the Ouma fight and you tell me how does GGG look you idiot. Why do we have idiots comparing present GGG to GGG of 5-6yrs ago. GGG fought to me better back in the day it's just that guys didn't fear him that much.Comment

I don't think him being slow has anything to do with it b/c let's say GGG has slower feet than a Daniel Jacobs if GGG cuts off the ring before Jacobs move you can have Hussain Bolt feet and you're still getting cut off and that's what he does.Comment

now if he would just fight even one quality opponent, we could see if all these tools are indeed the makings of an elite fighterIt all looks pretty and handy in text, but once you are in front of Gennady, you are up against something Godly. Exactly. He doesn't waste movement. It's rare to see a boxer maintain his stance and balance so consistently. He's always in position to attack or defend cuz he keeps his knees bent and his upper body centered over his feet.GGG's combinations are very creative. He is usually not predictable.
The way he cuts off the ring and moves is really cool to see in person. I've been to a few of his fights and he looks like he is gliding around the ring so smoothly. That is why i don't think it matters that he isn't the fastest guy.Comment
