WBA to call for GGG v. Jacobs mandatory next week at the WBA annual convention!!!!

That would be fine, and I dont think anyone would gripe, if they were consistent in enforcing that requirement. But they arent. I cant really think of a recent time when they enforced a super-regular mando. They certainly didnt do it with Floyd, as a matter of fact Thurman complained about that many times.

But be that as it may, if this happens I hope K2 and HBO can work something out for GGG to take 1 fight off if K2 loses the bid.

I honestly think that, in this instance, HBO should be willing to make a deal. Golovkin should beat Jacobs handily, and in effect Haymon (now an HBO rival) would pay a ****load of money to win the purse bid only to showcase an HBO fighter crushing Jacobs on Showtime/PBC.

Might be wishful thinking, but with all this bizarre **** going on in boxing right now I think it would pay off for them to think outside of the box in this instance.

Agreed. And as an added bonus, it would make the Showtime announcing crew look like the homers they are, as they were downplaying GGG, and having to listen to them commentate Jacobs getting put on the floor would be hilarious.......

Golovkin's exclusive HBO contract may technically be up now or after one more fight (although I'm sure he will resign). I made a thread about it not long ago. Basically i referenced an espn article from 2014 that referenced golovkin's new 4 fight deal with HBO. Golovkin has had four fights since that article.

Props to Jacobs for a great background story but he's just another mid-level contender. This is just a weak division.

The deal calls for a minimum of four fights, although the Geale bout was the first one under the contract. The agreement also has provisions for overseas fights and potential pay-per-view fights, meaning there could be far more than four bouts. The bottom line is that all of Golovkin’s fights, wherever they may take place, will be on HBO or HBO PPV for the foreseeable future.

So the Murray & Lemieux fights probably don't count, then the Johnson fight in February would be #4. But I'm hopeful Nelson will convince his bosses to allow Golovkin & Kovalev to fight on a Haymon platform should Haymon be unwilling to negotiate and win a purse bid for those title fights.

HBO has a limited budget and limited pool of fighters, yet they need to grow the names of guys like Golovkin & Kovalev if they want HBO Boxing to grow.

They are talking about a timeline, which probably means the fight has to be made within ... x amount of time and not necessarily next.

Would be really good to see this fight early next year though.

WBA convention is actually December 13-19, so we'll know soon enough. Eubank/O'Sullivan is this Friday (Dec. 12), should get a clear idea of how this will play out. Though I think Eubank could drop out of the WBA and go after the WBO should Saunders beat Lee.

Golovkin vacates the belt (need to find out the type of business that Jacobs-Quillin did at the Barclays Center, but HBO is unlikely to be willing to lay out the money needed the fight, let alone commit to putting up the money to host the fight on HBO PPV), Jacobs gets elevated to "super" champion, Jacobs vs Lee-Saunders becomes a WBA/WBO unification fight,and the "regular" WBA moves to EubankJr-O'Sullivan winner (being hosted among UK middleweights for a while).

Golovkin is left to work through IBF mandatory challengers (and the ocassional WBC mandatory challenger), while Daniel Jacobs is free to take on any fighter, as long as they are rated top 15 by the WBA or WBO.

Al haymon and pbc are not to blame if ggg cant fight on pbc. Blame hbo and their exclusive contracts.
