Golovkin knows how to position himself so that he will end up on the side of his opponent to nullify the opponent's ability to throw, much less land, a punch. Roman Gonzalez is also very good at putting a fighter where he wants him. These little sly tricks are hard to catch in a real time film. You have to slow it down but when you do, you seem some amazing things from the greats. GGG is a standout because of these little things. The bonus of his great punch makes him even more impressive and more feared. All this talk about he should move up in weight to get a fight is ridiculous because the two top guys at his weight are afraid of him. If Lara wants to step up, I'm sure GGG will take him on. When you study each of them, I think it's obvious that Golovkin will destroy him. Canelo had lots of trouble with Lara, but Canelo doesn't cut of the ring. GGG is great at cutting off the ring and putting his man where he wants him. Lara will crumble and maybe then, Canelo might be forced to fight him through a court order.
People don't understand that GGG would still be the dominant Middleweight of this generation even without his power. I don't think he has ever had to use his power to dig himself out of a hole on the scorecards. Its just an added bonus that makes his fights end excitingly instead of in decisions.

If he punched like Willie Pep, he would still rock opponents, throw them off balance and make them look and feel ****** and block them mentally. This is why he 's so exceptional. He knows all the tricks of a skilled boxer while having the power to go along with it. No matter how great a puncher you are, you don't get 21 knockouts in a row, including 15 of them title fights, by simply having a great punch. Felix Trinidad was an outstanding puncher but he didn't know all the subtle tricks GGG knows and executes. Trinidad got a lot of trouble from movers and counter punchers because he mainly fought on the outside and tended to grow frustrated and load up. Golovkin knows how to close that gap and position himself to the advantage while putting his opponent in the awkward places where they can't get off on their shots like they want to. Together with getting tagged by him, it's hard to focus at all. The haters are crying about his competition, but once he beats down Jacobs, Lara and Canelo, even some of them will be believers. I have tremendous confidence in him because of all of these skills and the guy has great power and he is flat out mean, pressing hard for those knockouts. Like a throwback, GGG gets in there to hurt you and that makes for great fights. There is no safety first, I'm ahead so I can lay back and get a decision nonsense about him. When you watch him, you see him pressing his man and going for the finish. Very entertaining on top of his excellent skills. He's 34, but a young 34. He should go very far.

Making a guy miss and controlling him in close is much more impressive than leaping across the ring when the opponent feints. Great waste of energy. Short, small moves to put the man where you want him is much more impressive and useful.
Lots of guys here think you can only be a certain race to have skills like that which is why they reduce GGG to just being all power. The funny thing is, they profess to love the sweet science, but can not even tell when its right in their face. Golovkin is one of the best boxers today.

It is sad. I don't know what it takes. Eminem. Tiger Woods. There have been lots of fine fighters through the sport's history of all races. No one group holds the key to success in this sport or any other. It's really just ignorance speaking. I was the same when I was younger, but I did wise up. I really don't think it's ever been about race for me. It's about styles. Unfortunately, many people will lump all movers in with a lot of brawlers because they are the same race, but you have to look at each fighter individually. And this is by no means trying to say all Russian or Eastern Europeans have GGG's skills. They flat out don't. Neither do most Americans or any other group. He is special in that way and it makes him a stand out. I appreciate aggressive fighters who have great defense, because it's the best of both worlds, it's entertaining and I think it's the hardest thing to pull off. A quick mover will generally get hit less than a slugger. A slugger will generally get more knockout than a mover. However, a guy that can get KOs with consistency and take few punches while doing so is a rare thing and it takes those little nuances to pull that off. Rigo and Lara are special, but they're also boring. They could move less(especially Lara) and get more done in there. GGG use half their movement if that and he still wins with brilliant moves and he gets KOs every time out. Roman Gonzalez does the same. This is what a fighter should aspire to be, IMO.
