After you beat Tellez, what are your plans? Will you move to 108 and maybe fight Viloria?

Iron Boy's Answer: Maybe it all depends on my manager. If they want me to fight at 105 I will fight them I still have the three champs and love to unify but they don’t want to. It always someone who wants the champ but never vice versa. If no one wants me then I will move up and try to fight Brian.

Thanks for chatting with us Ivan, 2 quick questions:How any rounds of shadowboxing do you do a day and how many rounds of sparring do you do to prepare for a upcoming fight? thanks

Iron Boy's Answer: Well you know shadowboxing is more time than rounds. I do about 30 minutes of warming up. For a fight about 100 rounds but it all depends on how much time I got. The least I have done was 89 the most 120.

    Hello Mr. Calderon

    Here are my questions
1.) I know that you beat Viloria like 3 out 4 times in the amatuers. However, as you know, Amatuer and proffesional boxing are very different. Do you want to pursue a fight with Viloria?

2.) Puerto Rico has a rich boxing history. Who among the great Puerto Rican fighters are your favorites? who are your favorite fighters. period?

3.) What is your Reach (Wingspan)? I don't see the stat on boxrec.com and i've never seen you fight on tv. sorry.

Cool of you to do this Mr. Calderon. Thanx and goodluck.

Iron Boy's Answer: In Puerto Rico I would say Wilfredo Gomez as he was the complete fighter. Tito as well. Right now it is Ivan Calderon. All time Ali I think I got something from him my movement my legs and I don’t stop throwing punches. Me and Brian fought 4 times he won two the last time I won at the Olympic trials. He is high on my list yes I would love to fight him but I also want to defend my belt as long as I can so I can have a record like the other great Puerto Rican fighters.

    my wingspan is 63"

    Hi Ivan

Appreciate you coming in and chatting to us...

When people talk about you as a fighter they say that you are technically gifted and one of the finest pure boxers in the game today, but you are seldom known amongst the casual boxing and sports fans, when other fighters get far more recognition off of lesser talent.

Is it something that bothers you, and if it does what do you plan on doing to raise your profile in and outside of the fight game?

Best of luck to you mate, you are a great champion.

Iron Boy's Answer: Yes it bothers me a lot because since I have turned pro I have been trying to show people its not about knockouts and weight. I believe it’s the smaller weights that put on the best fights and the most action. I don't like the fact that I can put on a great fight yet people would rather see two sloppy heavyweights.

    Hello Ivan,

I love to watch you box, you remind me of a smaller version of Pernell Whitaker.

1.) Is it true that you used to live in The Bronx, N.Y. and fight out of the gyms in the South Bronx competing in the Golden Gloves?

2.) How much longer will you Box professionally?

3.) Are you related to Miguel Cotto?

    Iron Boy's Answer:
    1) yeah I used to live in the Bronx for about ten years.
    2) Three years more then I will retire. I dont want to fight past 34
    3) He is just my good friend since 97. His wife is my wifes cousin. We used to hang out a lot but since we turned pro we don’t keep in touch as much so we are not as close.

Do you enjoy travelling to new places when you fight? I see that much of your career you've fought in Las Vegas and Puerto Rico. Will we ever see you come over here, to Asia? Perhaps for a fight with Kyowa, Niida, Rachmann, or Mayol?

Soon you'll have your 10th title fight in less than 3 years. Is it tiring? How long can you keep that kind of work rate up?

Thanks for coming to Maxchats! You've made a fan from across the globe

Iron Boy's Answer: I always like to stay close to be honest. I just go do my thing and come home. I would love to travel to Asia especially Japan but they never invite me to fight only to visit but I would love to go there and Thailand to fight. Nah the 10 is a great number as only 4 other Puerto Rican fighters have had more than 10 defenses and it would be quite an accomplishment for me being in the same compaby as Wilfredo Gomez, Felix Trinidad and the others.

    Thanks for stopping by, Ivan.

You're definitely one of the most skilled fighters in the world. I just have two short questions. Who do you want as your next opponent? I think taking on the winner of Eagle Kyoma-Rodel Mayol would be a great fight for you and a chance to obtain another belt.

Second, could you ever see yourself moving up in weight?

Iron Boy's Answer: If I had my choice I am not going to lie I do want Brian Viloria as it brings the most money and spotlight. But I still want my 10 defenses as I was told it would get me direct to Hugo Casarez as I would be a super champion at 105. I think Hugo would be tougher than Viloria

Yo wassup Iron Boy? I'm a big fan of yours. You and Cotto are our next Puerto Rican legends. I really enjoy watchin u fight. After this 10th defense i hear that u may move up and fight Viloria. My question is what would u do after that, meaning would u stay at 108 or just look for big fights at 105 and 108?

Iron Boy's Answer: to be honest it all depends on how I feel once at that weight. If it feels good I will stay there but also I dont see why I couldnt defend both 108 and 105.

Mr. Calderon some people who are called pure boxers rely on reflexes like Gainer or Judah others use skill like Mayweather Jr. or Cory Spinks what type of boxer do you consider yourself to be and how much is skill and how much natural talent and reflexes do you rely on?

Iron Boy's Answer: I think it's mostly my natural God given talent. People used to ask me if I had boxed before because of how easy it looked. After a month of training I had my first amateur fight.

    More Iron Boy Answers:

**he and Tito are friends and have gone out dancing upon occasion
**he had Cotto used to be really close but have drifted of late
**he thinks that the weight of Cotto is what is effecting his chin as he makes himself weak to come down in weight
**doesn't think he would ever fight Arce. Not because he is scared but because the size difference would be to much and Arce comes in at 130 at times while Ivan's walking around weight is 115 max
**started at 17 and after one month was thrown in with a guy he used to beat up on the streets....Ivan got his butt whupped
**may try for titles at 108 and 112 if the money is right

he really is flattered that he has so many people asking about him. Normally his fan base is in Puerto Rico so he was quite surprised the show of love you gave him

Thanks and Ivan has agreed to do a contest for his PPV

        Thanks for sharing the interview!

Everyone is so hot for Calderon/Viloria but they forget that two of the best minimumweights are gonna have a bloodbath(Mayol & Kyowa) for the WBC Title in May while Calderon fights a guy ranked #72 by boxrec? What is he, gonna take a tuneup fight so he can be fresh when he fights the winner of Mayol/Kyowa for the unification?

Japanese and Thailanders dominate the lowest weight class in boxing and if Calderon wants to be recognized at minimumweight, he's gonna have to fight overseas. Of course, there's always the risk of getting robbed but I don't think he has a choice.
