    3) Like some other people, my first reaction was that the stoppage was overly cautious but then, after watching the replay and hearing/reading some of the ringside accounts and (not least of all) noting that Quillian didn't protest much, but then remembering some spectacular comebacks and wondering if maybe we're losing some of that in recent years, and so on and so forth...

If pressed for an answer, the certainty that the ref knows the sport better than I do and that he was the guy on the scene making the call would have to outweigh my misgivings and I'd back the call.

What did you think of the stoppage?

2 and 1) Though I was impressed that he was respectful and reserved in the post fight interview and despite my wanting to give a dude a clean slate, I'm more or less convinced that Quillian ducked GGG and still have kind of a lingering bad impression from some smarmy comments of his that I think I remember, so I want to see him earn the rematch.

Also, I'd like to see Jacobs vs Lee (who I hope wins that matchup).

I do believe that, dude is a true warrior inside and outside the ring. He is one guy who has a true fighting spirit. Best of wishes to him.

Quillen was thinking of little g and a mega fight instead

Quillin was thinking of the next little g fight and big money instead of focusing on Jacobs. Quillin got smoked KO'd and played. But Quillin couldn't even beat Weak Andy Irish Potato Lee. Jacobs obviously is the better fighter by KO.

He caught a cold Quillin who never really got on track & I do think the ref should have let the fight continue b/c a lot of fighters recover quickly after getting caught like that. For instance, Mosley really cracked Mayweather a couple of good ones but Mayweather recovered and was taking it to Mosley when the bell sounded If there's a rematch & Jacobs wins it, then I'll be impressed.
Than you should watch Kovalev fighting Simakov. Simakov did not look half as bad as Quillin. And now he is DEAD.

No, you don't get it. The ref did check and stopped it based on Quillien's ******ed stare that he always has when he fights. I still feel he should have been given a chance, it might not have worked out in his best interest, but know one really knows. Just think about all the good fights we would have missed had the fights get stopped early. The Bradley vs Prov or Pavlik vs Taylor.

We have seen ppl recover from situation worse than this. Names come to mind are Bradley, Cotto, Holt, Pavlik, even Mayweather himself was rocked badly by Mosley.
Yes but all of those men knew where they were when they were in that situation. Neither of those men were knocked out on their feet, Quillen was already knocked out, just because he was standing doesn't mean he was good to go. The ref cannot stop the action to see if a fighter is ok, unless the fighter has received an injury like a head butt etc... What the ref did was appropriate, he stepped between the fighters when he thought Quillen was on his way down, he turned his back to the injured fighter as he maneuvered the active fighter to the furthest neutral corner, he then turned and looked out the ring for the counter, so he (the ref) can continue the count, when he saw there was no one counting out the ring, he realized Quillen had not been down, so the ref waved the fight on while taking an active posture in preparation to stop the fight, should he have too. At that point the ref looked at Jacobs, then turned and looked at Quillen, made eye contact, and realized Quillen was already knocked out on his feet, so the ref stopped the fight. As I said, the Boxing fan in me wanted the ref to allow the fight to go on, but my boxing knowledge told me Quillen was already gone and he was on punch away from being out cold. Could Quillen have miraculously recovered and survived the round? Of course. But that's a major risk, and it's better to caution on the side of error, when someone's life is on the line.

I'll point out, when a boxer gets knocked out cold, on the canvas, not moving, not responsive, the ref runs over starts the count, gets to 3 then realizes the boxers state and stops the fight, but 2 counts later the boxer jumps right up like nothing ever happened. Now some people would say the ref should have counted to 10, while others would say when you get hit, and as a result end up temporarily immobile, it would be better for you to stop fighting, recover, and receive medical attention, rather than sustain anymore damage after such a trauma.

Bet you say Jacobs is better now, but if GGG beat the living shot out of him, you'd call him a fighter.

It's ignorant to think Jacobs can honestly beat GGG.

Two, Kid Co said fighting GGG would take him needing $10 mil, and number he and everyone else knows he would never get.

When you price yourself out of a fight, I don't care what you say, fear is the reason.

He feared getting skunked, and then not drawing cash fights.

Now his ass got skunked by Jacobs.
