Comments Thread For: Mayweather: If GGG Beats Ward, Then I'll Be Impressed

Over the last few days, former five division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. had a great time in Russia. During the stay, he set aside some time to answer questions about his career and the sport with local reporters.

He was asked for his opinion on the recent victory by Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, who won a twelve round decision over Miguel Cotto to capture the WBC middleweight championship - and how he felt about a potential fight between Canelo and his mandatory challenger, WBA/IBO/IBF champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin.

Sounds like some of the butt hurt GGG haters.

GGG called him out at his division and he said no thanks.

What I don't understand is....why people think so poorly of GGG, but want him to fight one of the top fighters on the planet at a weight that doesn't benefit him?

Couldn't have said it better... I am not interested in seeing little g fight any more cab drivers or dish washers. Little g needs to man up to all this 154-168 talk and fight Canelo at 155.

How do you NOT understand? Everyone realizes Gennady has talent, but how good is he really? KOing no-hopers is good entertainment but not overly impressive. He wants to prove himself to be the best or as good as he is acclaimed, then he needs to fight top level opposition.

You have people on this board wanting Floyd to jump 2 weight classes to fight Gennady, but have no problem with Golovkin and his team lining up can after can for him to demolish.

Gennady ain't getting any younger, bruh and his resume is straight ****! When is he going to fight someone noteworthy?

I fail to see how jumping 1 weight division and taking on one of the best fighters on the planet would hurt Golovkin's legacy? What are you talking about?!

If Mayweather beats GGG I'll be impressed.

Same size difference between Mayweather and GGG as GGG and Ward.

So why is Mayweather ducking GGG?

Hell, if he even got in the ring with him I'd be impressed. No chance though. I don't blame him, but I also think he should have kept his mouth shut. Floyd has every right to say this as he went up to face Canelo when everyone (including myself) said he wouldn't.

I don't even want them to fight but why do people persist with this fallacy?
Golovkin always said he'd meet him at 154.

Floyd's a boxing promoter, he'd do better talking about his own fighters than worrying about Jay-Z's, particularly since he has moved up anyway.

Mayweather never called out GGG and, if you haven't heard, Floyd is 38 and retired. Golovkin ducked Ward until he had to seek challenges in another weight class, then Genady started calling him out when he knew the cost was clear.
