Too many threads about the fight, and having technical issues with the site... so I'll try to sum up my impressions on the fallout of the Fury victory over Wlad in one thread:
First, cong**** to Fury and his fans. Few people gave him a chance, and he defeated the HW champion of the world in his own backyard. Tremendous feat. The fight itself was lousy though, courtesy of Wladimir Klitschko. I've always been one of Wlad's biggest critics, and he proved me right for once and for all on Saturday night.
Ever since those early career knockout losses, Wlad fights UGLY. He's always scared of getting tagged on his brittle chin, and he fights like it. The fact that he's dominated the division for so long is a testament to how lousy the division really is. Most of his opponents entered the ring even more scared of Wlad than Wlad was of them. The result was a never-ending parade of crappy fights. One of the few exceptions, Povetkin, was clinched, mauled, and fouled so much.... it ruined what could've been a good fight. I was dying for someone to come along with the size and ATTITUDE to take down Wlad. So I'm pretty happy about the result. Maybe public interest in the division will pick up a bit now.
Fury is not all that... but had what it took to beat a very timid Wlad. I don't know how he'll do now that he's champ, but I suspect he won't last nearly as long as Wlad did.
For what it's worth, I hope Haye doesn't get a shot. I can't stand any boxer who stays away from boxing for years, and then struts in and demands a championship shot. He had his chance handed to him against Wlad, and after talking a lot of ****..... proceeded to blow it. Now he can earn his way back like everybody else.
Fury's win opens up a lot of possibilities now. Fury-Wilder, a Wlad rematch (hoping for a knockout this time), and a host of others.
