I feel like thats always been the case tbh doe. Go watch some of those old non-super fight Ali bouts. Omg they are boring as **** to watch. Go watch some old timey non-HW, non title fights. Some of that **** looks like guys are just doing some new sorta dance where you mimic the other guy for a couple minutes before resting. That **** gets glossed over cuz who's wanting to watch ****ty old time fights when there are plenty of good ones out there.

I've often felt boxing should change the rules like other sports do more often to keep boxing as entertaining as possible. How you go about that is debatable, but I think there are plenty of ways to do so so the reality is guys who win in un-entertaining ways are doing so within the rules of boxing that could be changed to not allow guys to win in such un-entertaining ways.
Most definitely, but those were just regular fights. In the big fights those guys put on a show and went for the glory. Even going back to Hopkins-Tito. Bernard totally neutralized Tito, similar to what fury was doing to wlad, but he made him pay and beat the **** out of him. Fury just neutralized wlad and then would throw a back handed jab from the southpaw stance. I can't accept guys having a corpse in front of them and doing nothing about it. You don't want to awaken the lion, but there were so many opportunities, in the three big fights this year, for the victor to do more and do something great. People's standards are so low now, those performances are lauded as great when theyre really average.

I'm not sure what can be done about but clearly this new approach at the highest levels is resulting in duds.

Floyd and Wlad are notoriously risk averse and think nothing of stinking out the joint and giving everyone migraines with their awful tactics. It doesn't surprise that those two fights were dull.

Cotto-Canelo was entertaining, just not as entertaining as the best version of that fight could have been.

I agree though, Bute vs DeGale was an amazing fight. I think people are sleeping on that fight, I was gripped, and it was one of the most enjoyable fights I've seen in the last few years.

Nah man I'm talking Ali level ****, no Ali fight past Liston was just a regular fight. There are a ton of fights out there that are high level boring as **** fights on the entertainment scale.

I'm not sure what can be done about but clearly this new approach at the highest levels is resulting in duds.
I think you change the rules. Ban holding/clinching for instance is an easy one, this ain't MMA, no grappling mfers. People get away with so much holding/clinching its nuts. In particular I'd like to see guys who do that aggressive holding/clinching post-knockdown or upon being hurt to lose a point on the regular. That **** should be 100% unacceptable. I'd like to see the ref becoming more invisible in the ring. He starts the fight, he gets involved if someone gets dropped or points get taken & he tells you when the round is over. None of this random breaking up of action cuz guys are all tied up & ****.

The problem as with most problems in boxing is you can't just change the rules cuz boxing is a f#cking circus cuz their isn't a centralized power structure in the sport that could widely change the rules. Otherwise all the nutty **** that happened last night (bouncy castle ring + guy wrapping his own hands in private) don't happen.

^it's mainly due to there being so much money in the game compared to back in the day.
for example mayweather doesn't feel the need to engage or provide an entertaining spectacle.
he knows the value of the '0'. which has now set the precedent for the business minded boxer who have no interest in being in competitive match ups or wars.
          which is a shame.

If you had the UFC KO bonus and fight of the night + have a similar rule to 'Pride' by giving them yellow cards for refusing to engage or constant holding (which would dock money from their purse)

          would work IMO.
