Is Canelo-GGG the only fight where the biggest fighter has asked for a catch weight?

canelo is most likely 178-180 on fight night. completely ridiculous. he is no better than chavez jr. at least chavez jr fought at 160 limit. canelo won't fight at 160 limit AND rehydrates 18-20 lbs above the middleweight limit.

The middleweight championship should be fought at the 160 pound limit.

      Simple enough for you?

There is no evidence of that since he didn't step on a scale.

But it doesn't seem very hard to believe either.

There's no evidence so we are going to just make some up the other way and declare it fact.

Canelo turned pro at 15 compared to GGG at 24, so yeah, Canelo was smaller. Duh. Maybe we should find out what GGG weighed at age 15, lol. Also, EVERYONE fights heavier in the amateurs, as it is same day weigh ins.

As to the thread question, the only one I can think of is Pac-Algeri, when Pac actually imposed a catchweight on the smaller Algeri who was moving up from 140.

Has this ever happened before, where the bigger fighter is asking for a catch weight?
If he's bigger then GGG, then why can't GGG come down and make 155 lbs. I don't buy the whole "Canelo is bigger argument." When he rehydrates to 175, that includes meals that he ate the day of fight, and water weight. If Canelo is bigger, then he would be struggling to make 155 and GGG wouldnt have trouble coming down to 155. Don't think Canelo is a middleweight yet, and I think GGG has not fought good opposition and is only calling out smaller fighters.

Don't understand people hating on guys who blow up after making weight. I mean, if they made the weight, then what is the problem? There's benefits and disbenefits to fighting close to division weight, or blowing up on day of fight. Bigger guys might feel sluggish, slow, tire quickly. Just don't really understand what the deal with that is? My mindset on the issue is that if the guy is truly that big, then he left something behind trying to make weight...meaning you struggled to make weight and it will show in the fight. But, the guys who can comfortably make weight and then blow up, I mean its not hard to gain alot of weight after the weighin, since you are dry during weigh in, no food in stomach, etc.

"come down" to what you ****ing imbecile? 155 lbs isn't a division, they both hold middleweight titles and canelo is heavier, there's nothing to move down to

god damn i wanna kick you in the face for even typing that

For me its because its using something (weight), that has nothing to do with the fighters skillset, to an unfair advantage.

And this is a pretty new phenomenon. Back when every State did same day weigh-ins, there was very little of this nonsense. But now, when fighters have sometimes up to 36 hours to re-hydrate, it makes the idea of even having a weigh in somewhat silly. Whats the point? Its pretty much just a photo-op these days....
