It's poor aesthetics. They have poor lighting and black ropes. It makes it look like a small event instead of something grand. I personally don't care but I can see it turning off casuals.

I think it would h ave the opposite effect, the black is low profile and is less distraction than lighter colors and mulit-colors, and you can focus more on the fight when looking through the ropes.
