Promoter Frank Warren was a happy man when Boxing Scene caught up with him earlier after getting a deal done for WBO lightweight champion Terry Flanagan to defend his title against Derry Mathews on February 13 in Liverpool.

Flanagan will be making his second defence after dismantling Diego Magdaleno inside two rounds last month in Manchester.

Mitchell will probably make more to fight Barroso on the Dec 12 bill than he would have fighting Flanagan, who's not become a major ticket-seller yet. And he'll make far more if he comes through Barroso, as he'll be in line to fight Crolla in a fight that's been earmarked for Old Trafford. So if you think about it, it made best business sense for Mitchell to fight Barroso then Crolla, on Sky/Sky Box Office and for big bucks than to fight Flanagan, on a rival promoter's show (Warren), on a rival TV network, for less scratch. But of course Warren will put a spin on it, as is his wont...

Another thing, Mitchell likely has a better shot at beating Crolla than he does Flanagan.
